I'm actually kind of surprised that WNYO and WKBW and WIVB are my strongest stations. I've read here and in other places that those are the stations (plus WGRZ) that give them the most problems all year.

For my specific situation, how much gain do you think I would need? and would the CM7777 be a better choice?

I have read that the Channel Master preamps are the TV engineer's "choice" when used in areas where the transmitters are 10 to 75 miles away. This is due to the fact that they are difficult to "overload" because of their lo noise design. I remember reading this on the tvtechnology.com website a few days ago. Sorry I cannot find the exact article right now (their website is so sloowww) but I do remember that fact "sticking out" from the article. Hope this helps.. .

Ugh sorry for bumping this, but where is the best place to find a CM7777 preamp in 'sauga or TO? Or preferably a cheaper one that won't kill us haha.

I found the article previously mentioned:

Their website is sloowww. Give article time to load.

This article covers so much technical information that I could not possible begin to explain it here. Because it discusses the VHF-HI band, you folks up the GTA should read it due to the fact that CFTO and CHCH will eventually revert to their original frequencies. Hope this helps.. .

Yeah they're very expensive... unfortunately everybody seems to say they work better than anything else, apparently you get what you pay for with these, unless they're overkill for what you need, which nobody can know ahead of time of course. yeah... not terribly helpful sorry. anyways, you can buy it here. not cheap.

The nice thing with the CM preamps is they don't overload easily - and with a mix of strong (CN Tower) and weak (south Buffalo) signals, it's the perfect match to the region.

I was checking out the Solid Signal (http://www.solidsignal.com) website earlier and saw that they sell the CM 7777 preamp for $51.99 + $9.95 ground shipping in the US.

I know the US dollar is just about at par with the Canadian dollar these day, so how much does it cost you folks in the GTA to purchase something from an American company like Solid Signal? Is there a duty that needs to be paid besides an additional shipping cost perhaps? I'm just curious.. .

oh body! dont get into the canadian border duties please!!!!!. I had to replace my GPS traffic info antenna (basically the cigarret power contains the traffic kit) under warranty and just beacuse it was shipped from US via UPS I ended up paying taxes. I later found out that if Garmin would have used USPS then no border charges for me , so go figure. I beleive it was 25 cad BTW but I could be wrong on the figure. Note that it was a replacement and it was labelad as such , yet gimme your monny , Mr Harper said, lol. Oh well , at least knowing than in Cuba , no GPS for you would have been the result , conforts me. I have almost forgot it BTW so please leave that beast sleeping , lol.

using rg6 cable mount the phillips splitter close to both antennas connected to it with exactly the same length of cable about 1 meter, then install rg6 going to the tv-converter box....use waterproof coax seal on the connections if you put it up on the tower or roof or chimney mounted....try pointing the antennas toward lakeshore to test....i would use a rotor but you could try pointing 1- 4 bay at toronto and the other 4bay to buffalo-hamilton direction to test it.............about the mini state antenna......it has a preamp built in and a rotor and those wires you see are for a control with a knob that turns the rotor and very simple 1 element antenna inside the ministate and power is fed into it using a coax adaptor i think......i know a guy in markham who has one of those on his chimney on a 10ft pipe it picks up most of the dtv channels including ch11 and cts and buffalo

Both UPS and USPS will charge *taxes* on imports, as they should (for items above $15 US at least).

However UPS Ground also charges horrible brokerage changes, while Canada post usually charges just $5 for the same thing.

If you want ground servace, use USPS or don't have it shipped (FedEx Ground is slightly cheaper on brokerage than UPS, but not by much).

For air service, all the major companies include brokerage fees right in the price, so you'll often find that the end cost of UPS 3-day air is *less* than UPS Ground + brokerage... and it'll get to you a lot faster.
