So I see the big "new and improved" rearrangement of Rogers channels has come through. More organized, they say. Me, I'm primarily interested in the HD channels, so let's see what's gone on...

502 through 513 all sports. Good so far.

514 through 521 local Canadian channels. Check.

522 through 526: the 5 big US networks, east coast feed. Finally the west coast doesn't appear first (always found that especially odd).

527 through 531: the 5 big west coast US networks. Wait a minute, they don't have a west coast PBS feed, so why are there 5. Oh, look, for some bizarre reason local Toronto channel OMNI 2 is wedged in between NBC West and FOX West.

532: WGN. Still a US network, so that's OK.

533 through 537: entertainment & learning channels such as Discovery, National Geographic, TLC and so forth. Fine.

538 through 541: the premium pay-through-your-nose outdoor channels such as Equator and Rush. I'd like these, but not on top of already paying for the extended HD tier.

544 to 545: HD news. Seriously, where's CP24 HD. I'm waiting!

550 through 560: premium movie channels. Never seen them, probably never will...

565 and 566: OK, so why are local Canadian channels OMNI 1 and OMNI 2 stuck way down here. OMNI 1 is already situated at 520 with the rest of the Canadian channels, and OMNI 2 is also mysteriously wedged in at 530 with west coast feeds. Why are these both misplaced and duplicated?

567: Oh look, another misplaced local network - SunTV. Why this isn't up at the top with the rest of the Canadian local channels is anyone's guess. It doesn't even warrant a misplaced duplicate. If I was running SunTV, I'd be peeved.

Pleasantly absent: the HD PPV channels. It was always unpleasant scrolling past the 24x7 HD adult PPV channels with titles such as "Back Door Bandits" and "D Cup Honeys" just to get from the first batch of normal HD channels to the second. Seriously, they were split in the middle with adult PPV, and it wasn't like you could even turn them off or hide them in the guide (so much for the "Personal" part of "Personal TV" when you can't even turn off channels you don't want!)

Well now, this is more interesting.

As of today, Wednesday, Rogers has stopped altering the titles of HD programs with (HD) and (5.1). The problem is they would do it erratically - for instance "CSI (HD) (5.1)" one week might be "CSI (HD)" the next week. Your prior "record all" for the first version would NOT cover the second version.

At the end of the last season, I had 3 separate entries to record The Simpsons at 8PM Sunday on Fox. Plain, with (HD) and with (HD) (5.1) - and the fact that I had all three shows that they USED all 3.

They still have the additions, but they're added to the beginning of the program description instead. Which could pose its own issue, as some descriptions are already too long to read in their entirety.

I wonder if this will help at all with the "shows with long titles don't auto record" issue... where repeat schedules for shows that have extra long titles never actually record more than one episode, requiring you to create a new recording each week. This has happened on seasons of Survivor, The Amazing Race, I even "I Survived a Japanese Gameshow".

Now if only they would indicate what's new...

Daniel, did you/are you experiencing this with Rogers equipment or with "non-Rogers" equipment?

Rogers. You can't use Non-Rogers equipment for digital cable or their guide. :-/
