The first time we did it, I thought it was a fluke, but now we have done 3 XBR9's and it does it consistently.
When we use discrete power off and on, the TV loses the time settings, and asks you to enter the time. When I use a power toggle from either a URC remote or the factory remote, it keeps the time settings forever (at least 2 days we let it sit). When using the discrete power (via an MX-810 &/or a MX-3000), it loses the settings even if its off for only a couple minutes.

Any Ideas?
Has anyone else experienced this? 3 times in a row seems too much of a coincidence to be a damaged TV, even though that's what the Sony rep told us it was.

Thanks,
Mike

Yes I have also had this problem with 3 different sets. My sets also turn on, then turn off, then back on again with the time reset. Anyone with a fix?

Never heard of this - sounds like a firmware bug.

I updated the firmware, and it had no effect.

Wow. Sounds like the OFF command actually turns the thing totally off. Except wait -- then it would not be on enough to receive an ON command.

Definitely sounds like a bug.

Please report which XBR9s do this. Maybe it's just one model, maybe all of them.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

A coworker of mine said he isolated the problem to sending the input command to soon after power up. Delays were his work around. I beleive he said it was only when using the hdmi inputs but if you need more information I will ask him.

Hmm, still sounds like a bug to me! :-)

If this is reproducable, please let me know exactly which models this is happening on and what firmware version, and I'll forward it to one of my contacts at Sony.

46XBR9 - Logitech says it's Sony's problem and Sony says it's Logitech's. Funny thing is, the cheap RCA remote that Comcast gives out with their DVR works perfectly.
I am continuing to discuss this with Logitech and will until they revise their code and update the firmware.

Well, according to Sony this shouldn't exist on the latest firmware. Also my contact was under the impression that this was the result of multiple input commands, and not related to discrete power.

So if something odd is still happening running the latest firmware, please let me know and they can take a look at it...

This new TV has firmware later than what Sony has on their support website. I also think it is multiple commands coming from the logitech. As of this date, they have not offered a solution.

Well, after several weeks, Logitech has made some changes that now have the TV turing on and off properly. What I can't tell, is if they made the change to just my remote (log in), or have changed their setp for the XBR9! Still having problems with the DVR turning on, but the big problem was solved by Logitech.

Hello Daniel,

I am thinking about buying a Sony's kdl-52XBR9 tv but I have a problem and I wish you (or anyone in the forum) could help me solve it.

I live in Brazil, and I looked at the reviews, downloaded the manuals (USA's and Brazil's Sony Customer Site) and studied the features offered by the XBR9s and I found out something really disappointing: the XBR9s TV sets sold in Brazil do not offer Internet Video Playback or even Internet access. The only support for media through dnla is for pictures and music.

I read reviews from amazon and cnet and users say they can watch movies from youtube and so on... I called Sony's Support Hotline and the supervisor said the Brazilian version does not offer support for video, and there will be no available firmware update to suport video in the future, but Sony will launch video playback probably next year, but still with no internet video playback through dnla.

Here is my question: I wonder whether there really is a difference in the hardware of the Brazilian TV Set or the difference is only firmware. Sometimes I think Sony has deliberately hidden these features because most Brazilian customers do not have very high internet connection, and also so that Sony can launch a new model next year and make customers of the XBR9 feel they should discard their tv sets and get new models with new features, if you know what I mean...

If any of you has a technical contact at Sony, would you please ask him informally, of course, whether it would be too risky to make a firmware update on a Brazilian tv set (see, the model is exactly the same KDL-52XBR9), using the firmware uptade provided in the USA's customer's support site?
I have compared the english manual and the portuguese manual, they are exactly the same, with same features, except that on the TV set sold in North America there are two extra icons in the Media Menu (photo music video network) while in the Brazilian TV sets there is only photo and music.

Well, if you could help me I would be very glad, since I am a huge fan of Sony's and I do not want to spend US$ 5,000.00 (that's how much it costs here!) on a device that will be out-dated soon..
thanks
Guli
