Okay I'm in Guelph, 4 bay digiwave at 30 ft aimed at toronto.

I receive 5-1 and 11-1 perfectly (no breakup). However I expected to see more off of the CN tower at this location. Are all of the HD transmitters running at they're full power or are some still in low power test mode. I was expecting to pick up CITY-TV and Global and I'm at a loss as to why this is.

I would appreciate any insite as to why this is. Overall I'm impressed with the quality , just not the quantity.

cheers
RJ

Well, Guelph is 70km away from the CN Tower... and since most HDTV channels there are very low powered, I wouldn't expect much.

11-1 is in Hamilton, which is a bit closer to you, and fairly high powered (higher than any of the CN Tower channels). 5-1 is the highest powered on the CN Tower.

CW is basically the strongest HD channel in the area! Getting CTS is a bit more of a surprise.

Technically from your location I'd expect you to get more of the Buffalo channels... but you'd likely have to aim at them (and if you were, Hamilton wouldn't really be off-axis). I think you need a rotor...

RocketJock you will need to more than likely go to a 8 bay antenna. Try Neutron Electronics in Guelph. And most definitely you need a rotor if you want the best of Toronto and Buffalo and if your 30 ft up you may want to invest in a CM 7777 amp also. You should be getting more than 2 channels on your antenna in Guelph.

Forget about a 4 bay or 8bay antenna in you situation. I am in east Brantford and I am using a 91XG yagi, channel master CM777 preamp with a rotor on a 40 foot tower and I am able to receive 32 different digital transmissions with no dropout from Toronto, Hamilton, Buffalo and Erie. The 4 and 8 bay antennas are ok but for deep fringe reception (140 km.) the 91XG is the only way to go.
50 ' tower with VHF & UHF antenna at the house
45 ' tower with a 91XG yagi with a channel master preamp at the workshop/garage and a Samsung digital receiver.

Yes with my antenna pointed southeast I can get CTS (solid) and WLNO-DT. ( odd bit of breakup)

Anyhow looks like it yagi time!

Just an interesting note, My Mother lives in the northeast end of Guelph, fairly high with a great open path to the southeast. I can get Buffalo stations on here TV (analog) holding a 4 bay UHF head in my left hand in front of her bay window inside the house! (with colour!) and no preamp!.

Anyhow, I just purchased a pre-amplifer, A CH-7777 hopefully I can get it mounted when the rain stops!

I don't see too many postings in the Guelph area. So hopefully I can help by putting up some reception reports.

cheers

CM 7777 is a good choice. I use a 7778 myself.

Hi Daniel. Well as the weather has not been so great, I opted to try the amp at the back of the TV instead of up at the antenna till the weather gets better.

This amp is amazing, suddently my UHF analog coverage has picked up considerably. I am now receiving CFTO-DT on channel 9. Even though the amp is in the wrong location, my signal strength from 11-1 anf 5-1 has jumped from
37% to 71%. Overall well worth the $$$.

I suspect, that once the amp is up top that things could be better.

Now I just need to improve on the antenna situation, I'm going to hunt down a deep fringe yagi next.

I'll post up as things evolve.

cheers

hey Hespler Guy, thanks for the feedback! ...Interesting I can even get analog my network tv on 49 as well ( wish I could get the digital one).

I would also like to get 29 so I can have the fox network.

anyhow, good question I now want a 91xg as well. I think they're from antennas direct.

Fox is SO strong for me in Markham... but I've been hearing that it's nearly impossible to get elsewhere, especially in the western end. I also get 49 digital without issue.

Some things that might help you with that are a rotor and a more directional antenna.
