I took a long break from here because Ilearned what I needed to get my home theater up to basic veiwing. Now I have not upgraded my DTV reciever yet because A: I want to go with the TiVo HD box (I have basic TiVo now) but it is still too pricy. And B: I want to wait till locals are available through the dish in my area (Milwaukee, WI) And C: I hear that they will be upgrading to 4Mpeg, So with the undrstanding of being out of the loop for awhile, will someone please fill me in on where all this stands
I love technology! I just need to figure out how to use it. Keeping up with it's growing rate is hard enough!

TiVo and D TV are no more, than have their own version of a DVR now. I prefer the TiVo much more. The TiVo version will not support MPEG4. I believe, but am not postive, that the MPEG2 versions of the boxes will work for a least a couple more years. Also, it appears as though D TV will now lease their equipment like the cable companies.
When good enough is not good enough.

Why is it when I go to DTV's website they advertise the HD TiVo?

It is a messy crossover time period. Right now, they still have the HD Tivo. But it cannot do MPEG4, so it cannot do the HD locals, once they are available to you. By summer, the Tivo will probably be gone and be replaced by the NDS box. The standard definition Tivo is already gone.
