This is my first post after Remote Central was recommended by DTV Tech Support. That's right. They weren't able to give me a fix so they said come here.
Here is my equipment and problem: I have a Studio Pro Series RP HDTV (Made by Samsung I think) (Model# 42HD43A) and I'm not using a DTV HD receiver. I'm using their DVR receiver. I have my surround sound speakers hooked up to a Magnavox Combo DVD/VCR Model# MRD500VR. My problem is that I can't get the DTV remote to control the volumn of the Magnavox.
If more information is needed please let me know. However, I don't really understand how the installer has things hooked up.

So you don't have TV combo, you just have one of the new Magnavox Tv's that are giving non-learning OEM & Universal remotes fits? sorry there is no code.

Thanks, Edmund, for the reply. But I may have confused you and many others. The Magnavox i refer to is not a TV. It is a stand alone DVD/VCR Combo Player. I use it to watch DVD's and Video's in Surround Sound on my 43" Rear Proj. HDTV. This is how my system is configured:
Model 15R
DISH DirecTV DVR Receiver 43" HDTV Magnavox DVD/VCR
SAT 1 (COAX) SAT 1 IN (COAX)
---------------- SAT 2 OUT (COAX) SAT IN ----------------------
S-Video cable OUT S-Video IN -------------------
A/V RCA PIN TYPE OUT ----------- VCR A/V IN
AUDIO RCA PIN OUT AUDIO IN

As it is now I have to use the Magnavox Remote to adjust the volume while watching TV, playing a VCR or a DVD. What I want to try to do is program the DirecTV Remote Model RC23, to adjust the volume. I'm sorry I can't make it any more complicated. But any help is appreciated.

Tom, I don't see a mention of speakers in you diagram, messed up or not. Does the audio go out of the Magnavox combo into the TV and then come out the TV speakers? (If so, how do you get surround?)

Manufacturers have blown it with every combo I have ever seen that has a TV and some kind of player, using player IR codes to control it...and of course, no player has volume control, so no universal remote could ever be used with it.

This could be a similar situation. A learning remote is the only answer I can think of, especially since Edmund had only pessimism. When Edmund has an answer, it is short, sweet, and right, and look at his number of posts: he has had a LOT of answers.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thanks Ernie, as you said the Vol commands have to be coming from somewhere, either TV or the Stereo. On the white remote whatever device it is try the following:

1. Tv or Av1 or Av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
3. enter 9-9-3
4. press SELECT
