While I was looking at free HD TV which was brought to my attention by another Remote Central Poster and is available across the pond at:

http://www.freeview.co.uk/

I decided to look at:

http://www.usdtv.com/

and see if they were even still around. Was I surprised to see that not only are they still around but that they now have expanded to the East Coast in the Hamptons Roads, VIrginia area.

I posted about USDTV a few months back and didn't get a very positive response. The subscription service is not available here in Detroit but I did a antenna install for a guy who was using one of their tuners for local HD channels. I liked the tuner, nice set-up menus, user friendly operation. Seemed like a good alternative for people sick of high cable/sat bills.

Media1,

I hear you as I posted over a year ago and it was not taken well. The biggest complaint was USDTV is robbing available free channels from existing networks that would be available otherwise for free.

High Cable and Sat bills are hard to take when you go to http://www.freeview.co.uk/ and see what the English are getting for free. Granted I can not tell from the URL if the free digital in England is HD quality or not. But I did look at some of what they are showing and was impressed.

I also find it interesting that if you look at the cost of "Analog" cable available from Adams and a few of the other smaller cable providers across the country their package costs $24.00/month for 63 channels while Basic Time Warner is $48.50 for up to 75 channels.

But to get back on subject concerning ATSC OTA I have to agree with others that losing any free channels to USDTV would be upsetting. On the other hand if they put up their own towers and transmit on their own channels I do not have a problem,

Media1,

I went back and read your USDTV post and I must say I am glad you are still here.

Don B,

Yeah, that wasn't how I wanted to start off, being new to this forum and all, but I felt I had to defend myself. I was simply reporting on a new service I came across in the field that I thought might be of some interest to the folks here considering that most of us do this stuff for a living. I wasn't expecting such negative responses, but like all forums I think you're judged by your post count, too few and your viewed with some mistrust. As of late I'm trying to contribute more, I like this forum, a lot of good information and a place to share war stories with people in the same business.
