I watched Surface tonight on ATSC NBC HD and SD here in Raleigh,NC.

I say HD and SD because when I first started watching it in HD it was breaking up like I have never seen in HD and I had to switch to the SD version to get a clear picture. I am wondering if this was just a Raleigh Reception problem.

Of course the rest of the US is probably watching football tonight.

The show was not bad by the way although maybe for a yourner audience even if TV Guide didn't give it a good rating.

And what I find interesting is that if you missed it you can catch it on SCIFI at 11pm on Tuesday.

Now I am watching Just Legal in WB 22 in Full 16:9 DTV . Not bad picture considering it is not HD.

You sure it was on ABC? Pretty sure that's an NBC show. And NBC Universal owns Sci-Fi...

Daniel you are correct!

I know it was not ABC as that is the channel that gives me the most reception problems.

And that would explain why it will also be on SCI Fi tonight.

Sorry for the confusion,

I watched that show on WGRZ-HD, (NBC Buffalo) it came in fine for me. Not a bad show.

Seems to be a lot of the 'aliens' theme right now - there's Invasion on ABC and Threshold on CBS - personally, I like these kind of shows, so I'm happy - happy that's there's some quality shows at last along side the seemingly endless reality shows.

ontariocraig,

What was strange is I would swtich to the digital 4:3 version of the show and it came in fine, than I would swtich back to the HD version and it would either be all messed up or fine. About ten minutes into the show it cleared up and was fine until the end in HD.

Now if I could just get the better half interested in this kind of show.

Both of us dislike the reality shows so at least we are agreed on that.

Interesting, sounds like more of a problem on the TV station side. if the SD version was fine, then sounds like your signal was coming in OK. (I'm assuming SD is on a sub channel) maybe your local affiliate had problems with their HD equipment recieving HD version off the network or something like that ? I'm just speculating, I'm not really sure how it works. - Do they recieve two seperate feed an HD and an SD, or just one HD Feed and downconvert the HD feed for simultaneous broadcast into an SD feed ?

I remember a similar problem on WIVB a while back (maybe a year ago) when they were broadcasting CSI, first 10 minutes was a garbled picture, but the commercials were fine, as was the sub-channel (sub showing different channel)

Reality Shows - IMO it's a cultural virus, that I hope one day will die out !! - but my wife seems to like them for reasons I simply just dont get. Well, each to their own, its a free country, cant please everyone all of the time, and she doesn't like my shows either !!

I don't have HD yet and I watched on SD and it was messed up. Had lot's horizontal trash going through the picture. It wasn't just the show but the commercials as well. Other channels came in just fine.

Ontariocraig,

The SD comes on the same carrier wave as the HD here in Raleigh. So I figure it was not my equipment since the SD came in fine. I am not sure if it is downconverted or how they do it.

Mitch57,

Where are you located?

Mitch57,

Thanks !!

Binghamton, NY where I use to hail from was usually mentioned along side of Seattle for having the most overcast days per year. Not sure if that is still true.
