I can't seem to get the eye situated where My MX-3000 will operate the system reliably. I did't have my flashlight with me to check the eye location, but I know the codes work because when set in IR mode with the cabinet doors open it is flawess. I put the eye from my MRF 250 on the the obvious black IR eye location. Is there something I am missing. I actually turned the MRF 250 in the cabinet, and was using the IR blaster off the closed door, and that work most of th time, but that won't be acceptable....
I long for a better world. One in which a chickens motives will not be questioned when mearly crossing the road.

The HR10-250 has a known issue with flooding from the IR flasher. People keep posting this question again... and again... and again!

Move the flasher away from the eye. Move it away in 1/4" increments until you get reliable control. Yes... it won't be directly over the eye, that's the idea here.

If you had a MRF-300 you could turn the gain down.

Has anyone ever tried the 3.5mm IR jack on the back of the unit next to the RJ-11 phone jack? The manual says it is for "Future Use" but thought it might be connected.

The jack is an output for potential control of a VCR. From what I understand.

I have my emitters stuck to the shelf right in front of the sensor in the DTivos. Works perfectly.

Does it have a lot of programs stored? And season passes? These will slow it down. Another thing that slows them down is if both tuners are showing HD channels. For best speed, set tuners to SD channels if they aren't busy doing something you want on an HD channel.

The problem is the processor simply isn't capable of handling the massive HD bandwidth and large hard drive at a good speed. Poor design.

I would classify "Poor desing" as an understatement. My old 8086 computer could process faster then the HR10-250.

I think 95% of the problem is related to the processor. If it were a hard drive issue all of todays PCs would be so slow that they would be considered worthless. Which is basically what Spiky said.

These had a HIGH failure rate- I have to have exchange about every third one I see, but I eventually get one that works. Sometimes it is the HDMI output, sometimes it is a REALLY slow processor, etc. If you have a really slow one, send it in and get a new one. Directv will not be surprised when they get your call.

It depends what you are comparing it to. If you are comparing to a non-DVR receiver or to OTA, it is ridiculously slow. If you are comparing to an SD DVR, it is kinda slow.

Teach the customer to not watch live TV on a DVR, then the slowness will be less of a factor. That's not what this box is intended to do.

One problem Spiky. Our customers dont want to pay an extra $5 per month just to not have to watch live tv on the tivo. Besides, when I get a good HR10-250, it seems to run as fast as the standard one. Not in your experience with this unit?

That's very interesting. Are you saying that if you get a newer HR10-250 that is functioning properly and has a newer processor that it will operate almost as fast as SD DVR?

I had a Dish Network 510 SD DVR, before I switched to Direct TV one month ago, and it operated at the same speed as my Dish 301 receivers. I saw none of the menu issues that I see with the Tivo. I would say the Tivo takes two or more seconds to load the "TV Guide" on the screen. It then takes about the same amount of time to load/refresh the next screen when I push the "Page Up/Page Down" button.

It is what I would consider Painfully Slow!

Not a newer version. Just a GOOD unit. You either get an HR10-250 that works the way it should, or one that works but really slow, or you get one that is crap. You have about a 65% chance of getting a good one. If you dont, keep exchanging them directly with DirecTv. They are aware of the problem.
