We are excited to announce that PAX TV has changed its name to i . We introduced the i brand name on PAX TV on July 1, 2005, and during these summer months, you will see on-screen identities featuring both the new and existing brands and on-air promotional spots informing you of the change.

Many of your favorite PAX TV shows will continue to air on i , and we will be adding new programs to the schedule in the future. The i schedule will feature a mix of entertainment programs including dramas, comedies, movies, sports and news that appeal to a variety of interests.

Is this like the Verizon ads that I heard in the Los Angeles area when James Earl Jones first started booming for them? They started out with "we're a whole new company with a new name," which was good news because they were the slowest and always a couple of steps behind Pacific Bell. Apparently their customers though things would get even worse, because in a couple of months their ads said "we're just as good as we used to be...nothing has changed but the name.

What's in it for the viewer that the name has changed?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Maybe PAX will show Becker at a reasonable hour now that UPN replaced Becker with Sanford and Son.

I still can not receive PAX digital in the Raleigh, NC area as the Digital xmitter is just too far away.

I may be able to get it with a rotor but have not investigated this yet.

I wish they could install a repeater xmitter or something closer to Raleigh. I wrote to them about it but they did not bother to even reply and as I remember they did not even admit they had ATSC. Maybe I should have written to "i" instead.

Hey, you need TiVo!

not investigated this yet.

When will there be a TiVo with rotor control?

Ernie,

That has been one of my concerns with a getting a Rotor or using the A/B switch I have now for switching between antennas.

1.) How is the receiver going to know how to find all the information for possible TV Guide channels?

2.) Or how is a tivo going to know how to rotate the antenna to record an HD channel.

Questions I do not have an answer for.

There is no off-air TiVo yet, and I'm sure if there were one it would use a phone line for the guide (it would NOT use the one broadcast by individual stations - even my Sony off-air unit doesn't use those).

Now, if you're just using TiVo as a generic term for DVR, then there's only two off-air units to start with... the Sony I mention and an LG, and both of those use the TVGOS data service and ignore individual station guides (there really is no good implementation yet of individual station guides into a big fully functional guide - my older Samsung would take forever gathering information *each* *time* and of course not all stations are broadcasting).

And so far nothing has rotor control.

I wouldn't be looking too seriously for rotor control. That would require yet another standard, as well as positional feedback from the rotor giving the actual position, not just the usual "hey, I'm stopping because I got to where you told me to go." Sorry. I know this is not a happy thought, but dealing with signals coming from different directions just might be more than consumers are willing to pay to have built into everything.

Ernie,

Who sells a reliable "radio" a/b switch ? I am using a Radio Shack infrared A/B switch and a Radio Shack wireless infrared repeater to get the infrared a/b Transmitter commands up to my attic. I must say that it is less than dependable.

Since I am using two antennas, another alternative is a diplexer but I tried a splitter in reverse and had the channels stepping on each other causing more problems. I am not really sure if a diplexer is different from a splitter being used in reverse or not maybe you or Daniel T know.

The other device I have looked in to is a UHF Join- Antenna but I was confused on just how I can get one frequency only out of the device to merge it with the other antenna.

A diplexer is basically a splitter/combiner designed specifically to merge/split low-frequency antenna and high-frequency satellite onto one cable... it's not really what you'd want to use to combine two antenna signals. There are higher quality normal splitters that usually do a better job of combining than a normal splitter (look to Channel Master).

Filtering out frequencies in the UHF band is a difficult and costly idea - the Join-Tennas are only designed to do ranges of UHF channels (14-29, 30-49, 50-69), not pick and choose specific channels from various antennas. Basically, combining two full-frequency UHF antennas aimed in different directions is not a good idea. The equipment to do this sort of thing exists, but it's only sold on the heavy commercial level (ie. cable companies).

Go with a switch or a rotor.

I don't have very good things to say about A/B switches :-) but I'd say your selection is going to be quite limited...

Daniel,

I am not impressed with the Radio Shack variety at least. Also I found out that the 100 ft range of the RS repeater is pretty short. More like 50 ft thru any walls. Of course that can be expected. I am going to look for a longer range radio infrared repeater.

I am told that X10 makes a A/B switch but I have yet to find anyone who sells it.
