Comcast has refused to come up with a cable card - they keep saying they are on back order, or they are having problems with them. We all know the real reason is that they are afraid of people stealing their precious hi def signal; and they will also lose revenue since cable card is one way only and they can't sell PPV. Their position is also illegal. Has anyone heard of a remedy for this abuse of the law? Filed suit? Anything?

UPDATE:

I called again today and threatened them - all of a sudden they said they have new cards in and I'm scheduled to get one installed next Monday. Will wonders never cease!

Buy a Mitsubishi tv and many of your local channels should come in for free after the proper setup. Email me if you want more info. Will not get you hbo sho disc etc. It should get you the networks free.

good luck with that comcast cable card...I have experienced poor results, and when they did work, you still lost alot of the user friendly features like, guide, info, PPV....and so on. up side the tuner is probably better than what is in the crappy boxes they provide.

I believe you will always lose PPV with any cablecard/company. Only a loss to some.

agreed...one I did omit, but used widely...video on demand...also missing when a cable card is used.

Cable Card is currently only 1-way, so anything that requires your STB to communicate with the cable company is out, such as PPVs and VOD. However there's a 2-way standard being worked on (which of course will not be in any way compatible with existing Cable Card devices).

Here in Toronto, the cable company Rogers currently has NO plans to support cable cards and, according to a friend who works there, barely even knows of their existance. A shame, since more and more products are coming with Cable Card support. (No, there's no mandated support here as in the US.)

I have video on demand all the time. Over 200 titles available. I even gave it a catchy name. I call it....DVD. Maybe I should get a patent or something.
