Hmm, I think it was the goal to show at least
some games in HD.
I had assumed that after the World Cup of Hockey had been broadcast in HDTV, that the CBC would make HNIC the most likely show they'd move to HDTV.
But there are some other possible scenarios.
The CBC could make HDTV HNIC only available to cable and satellite providers, for extra revenue.
Leafs TV could make HDTV HNIC available only as a cable subscriber service.
Maybe the CBC only rented the HDTV equipment for the World Cup of Hockey and may not want to pay for an entire season of TV equipment upgrades. Outfitting the ACC with multiple HDTV cameras and other production equipment might be quite expensive and there'd be no extra revenue by broadcasting in OTA HDTV.
I wonder if the CBC only has one studio with HDTV equipment? That may explain why only a handful of CBC shows are produced and broadcast in HDTV.
I sure hope I'm wrong and the CBC shortly announces a full season of HDTV HNIC.
