Hey Daniel,
So just got a Samsung 32inch with QAM/NTSC tuner and seperate ATSC tuner, and its funny how the channel numbers between the Samsung and my Sharp are totally off. Over here in Thornhill (near Promenade), everything matches the list on the site, EXCEPT no RAI, no PROMO and no CLT... loks like they all went the way of the encrpyt...

Since removing them it's been a while since I did a rescan... I'll take another look and see what's up.

I am still using an older HD tuner card on my PC to receive HDTV. However, I have noticed that more and more of the newer HDTV's have built in HD tuners with QAM support. I have been contemplating buying one but how worthwhile is this today? I am in Toronto area on Rogers Cable and after reading earlier messages it seems that more and more QAM stations are being encrypted. Can someone do a full scan (Daniel Tonks says he will do one) and give a list of what is actually available and not encrypted. I suspect that Rogers and other cable providers will eventually encrypt all clear QAM stations... at least the good ones... comments on this?

There is nothing over clear qam anymore that's worth getting a tuner for.

Agreed... a lot of TVs have them now because they are being shipped up from the USA, but aside from the music channels (and they arent the radio stations), nothing QAM is in-the-clear... outside of ROD sessions (which are always interesting)...

I had given up on this but just for fun, re-scanned and found a number of channels in the clear on 83.xx , like RDS (the French TSN), some of the Seattle network channels, one with CBC in the lower right, one with CTV in the lower right. Anyone else seeing this?

Where are you located? I'm getting nothing in Markham... edit: I am using a Sharp Aquos. I don't think it filters out the encrypted channels because it always picks up tons of digital channels but most of them don't show anything. The only thing I can find are the on demand stuff and the music channels

OK, I just did a fresh scan in Markham... absolutely nothing there but the music channels and ROD sessions.

The only thing I can find are the on demand stuff and the music channels I am in Etobicoke (and also have a Sharp Aquos). The CBC turns out to be CHEX in Peterborough. The Seattle stations are KIRO, KOMO, and KCTS. RDS is there too. There's a couple more I haven't put a name to. I'm pretty sure the HD sports channels mentioned on the last page of posts are gone for me now though.

An update:
83-73 TV5 83-74 KCTS PBS Seattle 83-75 CHEX 83-76 KIRO CBS Seattle (I think) 83-78 to be identified 83-79 RDS 83-81 to be identified 83-82 CTV (not sure from where)
One of 83-78 or 83-81 is KOMO ABC Seattle

Not sure if this is just a normal thing that Rogers does every 6 months by changing which QAM channels are available as the last big change was in July when we lost a lot of channels. Of course, this could also be a sign that the end of free QAM channels is near but I resolve to be positive about this. Here's my scan of the channels in Mississauga:
64.xx - 29 music channels. Not going to bother figuring them out because listening to the radio with your LCD TV on just doesn't make sense to me.
83.73 - TV5 (same as 103 on analog cable) 83.74 - PBS Seattle (KCTS) 83.75 - CBC Oshawa (CHEX) 83.76 - CTV Kitchener (CKCO) 83.78 - Teletoon West 83.79 - RDS 83.81 - ABC Seattle (KOMO) 83.82 - CBS Seattle (KIRO)
84.xx - 40 radio stations (same as Daniel's original list?)
113.101 - CityTV Toronto 113.102 - A-Channel 113.103 - CBS Buffalo (WIVB) 113-106 - CBLFT
The PPV/ROD channels I assume are still there on 88.xx, 90.xx, 92.xx and 93.xx but like Monster asked, they do seem to be scrambled more often now than before.
The last two HD sports channels that I was picking up on 72.71 (channel 491) and 94.46 (channel 492) are now scrambled. My brother checked his Rogers box and these channels are no longer available for him either. A shame really as the free HD hockey and basketball were really nice.
Rogers sure is a killjoy!
