I am pulling in FAN 590 as well, as both an audio station and on the MLBEI listing station, next to that, same as everyone else here with my QAM tuner :-(

Hi there,

How did you open a outside enclosure and removed filters?
I moved to a house where we ordered a basic 28 channels cable. Tech came and hook us up to the external box. We got many not basic channels (extra basic)
Then after 2 weeks another Rogers tech came and disconnected us from extras.

Please let me know if there is a way to get it back free

Thanks
Lior

You already started a new post on it.

Removing filters is illegal. You should call Rogers and order the package with the channels you wish.
LET'S GO BUFFALO!!!

In North York, I still get the radio stations (on 64.xx), the music channels, and the on-demand video, but none of the other DTV any more.

the end is almost here!

only 1 radio station i can find (ch7110)

frankly, the OnDemand channels are the first set of channels that should be encrypted, IMO.

not the time-shifting channels, i pay the $2.99 every month

Good job, Rogers!

Later,
john

(BTW, i was being sarcastic, Rogers)

Noticed some interesting things going on with the QAM channels. Looks like Rogers has been moving the On Demand channels around for the past month. They're still not encrypted and they're still on the channels that Daniel has listed like 88.xx, 90.xx, 92.xx and 93.xx, but what I noticed was they've all moved to a new range within those channels. ex. On channel 93.xx, the range was always 93.22 to 93.41. Now it is 93.42 to 93.61 which is still 20 channels, just moved up in the channel range. Channel 88.xx used the same range and has also moved. Channels 90.xx and 92.xx were also the same and moved from 90.60 through to 90.71 to 90.20 through to 90.31, still 12 channels, just a new ranger. Now the way the Qy Sony TPerhaps this only applies to my Sony TV but in Mississauga, the On Demand stations werey were originally static changed the Not sure if this is to discourage people into thinking that they lost their stations or not. It doesn't work on my Sony TV because my QAM tuner

I noticed some strange things happening with the QAM channels over the past month and specifically this week. For instance with the On Demand channels in Missisauga, (atleast on my Sony E50A10), my TV always had the same range of channels from the time I scanned them in a year ago like so:

88.22 to 88.41 (20 channels)
90.60 to 90.71 (12 channels)
92.60 to 92.71 (12 channels)
93.22 to 93.41 (20 channels)

Now I'm not sure how anyone elses QAM tuner scans in channels, by my Sony will only add a channel if it is broadcasting, whether it is encrypted or not. For the majority of the encrypted channels that's okay, but with the On Demand ones, they only 'broadcast' if someone is watching something. Now that's not a big deal because as long the Sony can scan in one of the sub channels, it would automatically add in any new sub channels as they were being 'used'. When the show stopped broadcasting, the good thing was the channel stayed in the channel listing which is how I knew that the channels in Mississauga were always in these ranges in my neighbourhood. So here's what I changed.

All of the channels have moved to a new range of sub channels within the main channel. I only realized it when my TV started adding all of these new stations on which I would find movies, but on the original range of sub channels I would find nothing. I thought I was getting 20 new channels when in fact Rogers was just moving the original 20 around. I finally decided to do a re-scan just to clean up the clutter and all of the old channels were dropped and the new range showed up. My TV hasn't captured all of the new channels yet and definitely none of the 'old' ones, but based on the ones I do have, I think they kept the same number of channels and just moved them as follows:

88.22 to 88.41 is now 88.42 to 88.61 (still 20 channels)
90.60 to 90.71 is now 90.20 to 90.31 (still 12 channels)
92.60 to 92.71 is now 92.20 to 92.31 (still 12 channels)
93.22 to 93.41 is now 93.42 to 93.61 (still 20 channels)

So what's the big deal? Well I was wondering if Rogers did this on purpose to screw up the people with QAM tuners which don't work the same way as mine does where it automatically adds channels. If your channel listing is only created on the initial scan and therefore 'static', once these stations stopped working, you might be inclined to think that this was just Rogers doing the same thing that they did with the other channels. i.e. Encrypting these channels as well when in fact they weren't. They were really just shuffling them around the range.

I'm not sure how many people actually watch these stations as picking up a movie, (especially in it's entirety), is a little 'hit and miss', but I do like the fact that I can preview a lot of movies without having to waste money renting some of the crappy ones. A lot of the HBO stuff is pretty good when you do catch it.

Now for the good/weird stuff. Hopefully I'm not jinxing anything by talking about it because God knows that 'Big Brother' Rogers is probably watching this thread. This is probably why they started nuking the unencrypted QAM channels in July because they could see how popular it was getting. In any case, during my new scan this week, I picked up a couple of new channels. ex. 72.71. Initially it just looked like a sports advertising channel as it lists all of the upcoming activity for the 'ActionPak', 'Nascar Hot Pass', 'Extra Innings', 'US College Basketball & Football', 'Centre Ice' and 'NFL Sunday Ticket'. The main thing it seems to do is broadcast the feed for the FAN 590. Last night however I couldn't believe my eyes when I found baseball being broadcast in HIGH DEF on two of the new stations I scanned in. I had the Dodgers/Rockies game and the Twins/Mariners games in HD, it was pretty cool!

Now perhaps this is just a fluke as one of the advertising screens mentioned that 'Extra Innings' was being temporarily moved to a new range of channels for both Rogers and Cogeco customers for the week of Sept. 23 to 30, so maybe the only range that they could use was some of the old 'unencrypted' QAM channels. I'm keeping my fingers crossed just in case.

I turned it on at noon today and caught ESPN HD so I'm not sure how I'm getting these unless one of my neighbours has just activated an HD cable box and now I'm picking up some of his feed like with the On Demand channels. It's a distinct possibility because tonight I picked up a movie (Something with Ryan Gosling and Anthony Hopkins in it.) on the regular On Demand channel 92.21 and I had to look twice to confirm that it was also in HD. (Okay I know it was only upscaled to 1080i as that's what my TV display showed, but it looked REALLY good.) I can't say I've ever seen an HD movie on the On Demand channels in the past year so it was definitely something new. Mind you I did see the Rogers Cable van in the neighbourhood twice this week, so maybe they're 'tweaking' something.

I can only wait and see if I lose everything after the weekend. I'm just hoping to catch some more games in HD. I already pick up all of the local and Buffalo HD stations with an antenna, but it would be cool to get some more free HD cable channels like ESPN.

Sorry for the long post, just a little excited! I'd be interested if Daniel or anyone else can scan in these new channels and get some HD via QAM.

I've seen that sports promo channel with Fan 590 audio. I don't know really what they are, but there's usually a few of them when I do a scan. I think they're inactive secondary channels (part of some sports bundle).

I just noticed the new channel list. I havent been on the site in a whikle and havent used my tuner in a long while either beyond the 88, 90, 92 and 93 channels. Has rogers really blocked off all other channels beyond the radio channels? No more time shifting either? Thats just wrong!

You're right Daniel, they do appear to be inactive secondary channels that are part of a sports package, but the best news (for me anyways) is that they appear to be HD sports feeds.

If you read the sports promo screens carefully, they list which channels that the games for NHL Centre Ice, or NFL Sunday Ticket etc, will be shown on, like a channel guide. What I noticed was that within these listings, HD versions of the same game were also listed. Since I was occasionally catching an HD game, I decided to write down those dates and times of the HD games and then checked those FAN 590 promo stations at that time and guess what? I think I found out which HD stations that they are mapped too! Here's the few that I found so far which may be different for you since you are in Richmond Hill:

72.71 = 491
86.143 = 490
94.46 = 492

I have four other channels which currently are 'black' but which I know were broadcasting the FAN 590 and sports channel data. There are supposed to be 4 HD football games on NFL Sunday Ticket today at the following times and channels today so hopefully I can match them up to those blank stations and watch some HD football.

1:00 Cleveland vs NE - 496
1:00 Seattle vs Pitts -517
4:00 Tampa vs Indy - 497
4:00 San Diego vs Denver - 509

I checked Rogers Cable's site for channel listings and 496 and 497 are listed as HD NFL Sunday Ticket channels but 509 is Omni HD and 517 is CFTO HD here in Mississauga so I'm not sure what's going to show up.

The two HD baseball games I watched were probably part of the MLB Extra Innings package which now appears to be over since the playoffs started. The only other package I haven't seen is NBA League Pass but the NBA season obviously hasn't started yet.

We can only hope that this is not just a 'promo' or testing period cause it sure would make for an interesting winter of sports watching if these were permanent. It'd be a pretty good trade for all of the other QAM stations that we lost in July as these HD shows may actually be predictable based on the schedule listings. I'll let you know how it goes!

Those four channel do show various HD sports right now.

They show up a little different for my tuner though

72.12 - College Football in HD right now!
86.2 - Promo channel (Fan 590)
86.10 - NHL Hockey in SD right now (but should be HD in the future - says no HD broadcast available on the bottom of the screen)
94.13 - Promo Channel (Fan 590)

Pretty good though, that HD is amazing!!!

I've checked the channels on the weekend but can't get any of the NFL Sunday ticket games that are in HD so I suspect those channels are not available. I also checked with a friend who has a Rogers HD cable box and they are also getting channels 490, 491 and 492 and they don't believe that they were getting them before. I suspect we've just stumbled upon a free preview so we may as well enjoy it while we can.

Wipeout, the channel numbers will vary depending on where you are as I know the channels in Mississauga never totally matched Daniels original listing because he was in Richmond Hill. If you watch the FAN 590 station, it will tell you which upcoming games will be in HD and as long as they are on channels 490, 491 and 492, you'll be able to figure out which one your 72.12 is mapped too.

I'm also getting four channels like you are with the FAN 590 feed, but the fourth one cuts in and out and I haven't been able to map it to a channel yet based on the listings.

Two HD hockey games on tomorrow night, Columbus and Buffalo on channel 490 and Carolina and Pittsburgh on channel 491. No college football tomorrow but after staring at that BLUE Boise State field in HD, I need to see some white!

Enjoy!

FONGW2, are you still getting these channels? I was seeing them too but now I just get a black screen on 86.143, and my tuner can't even lock on 72.71 or 94.46.

Thanks! EGC

Hey Chico. I'm still getting 72.71 and 94.46 occasionally but 86.143 which mapped to Rogers channel 490 in HD has been blank for about two weeks now. I suspect they have now removed that 'freebie' from the lineup. The only good news is that I am catching some of the NBA Season Pass games on the remaining two channels. I guess we'll see how much longer they last.
