Ok, out of DISH Network or DirecTV, which do you think is better?

(I personaly like DISH network because I own one, I have tried DirecTV and the reciever are slow at up and down channel commands, and it is more expensive for the same thing.)
What you should choose does not end in the here and now, but how much you want to deal with it in the futre

Neither. Business 101. Dish is the low-cost leader. DirecTV is the choice leader. The market needs both, and apparently no others. Choose which one fits better with you. If either tried to muscle in on the other's area of expertise, they would screw it up. Direct has learned that and doesn't bother. Dish keeps trying every now and then, but they always screw it up. Witness their first few DVRs.

Direct fits better with me since they have good DVRs (so far) and Sunday Ticket.

I started with DirecTV and have stayed with it. Dish often has great "new customer" deals including free install and receivers, and 3 months free or more of their movie programming. I've a friend who got irritated at DirecTV for some reason, so he switched taking advantage of the above deal. Cost him nothing. He likes what he gets with Dish.

I'm looking to upgrade to HDTV content, and as an existing customer with DirecTV I'll have to buy new receiver(s), new dish, and pay even more per month. The minute I see Dish offering free install with a free HDTV receiver/DVD burner I'll switch. It's all about getting the best deal in the end.

68 views, 1 reply. I wonder why everyone is so unwilling to opine on this one.

DirecTV is number one.
Dish Network is number two.

Can't say I'm enthralled with the level of customer service from DTV, in fact, I am not a fan of them as much as I consider them the lesser of two evils.

If I can receive DTV, I'll take it and pay the bill. If I had to choose between Dish and local cable, I'd have to sit down and think about it.

If I encounter a customer who is unwilling to spend $110 a month to have every channel DTV offers, (after dropping a minimum of ten grand for a system) I know they are a nickel-and-dimer who will complain about every inch of cable, every wire nut, and every quarter-inch of electrical tape used on the job. Not worth my time.

In my honest opinion, if you're out there installing high-end home theaters, I can't imagine installing anything less than DTV's full package, and OTA HD when the job calls for it. My opinion, no one elses, take it or leave it.

DirecTV also has traditionally had better equipment. This was when there was a competitive market to produce equipment that was compatible with their system. This includes the TiVo DVR, which is the best DVR interface out there.

Sisnce they have taken the competition out of the design of their products, I don't know how much longer we will be able to say this. They sold off their interest in TiVo, which makes me think that they are going to come out with a new DVR, with a different interface. Who knows what their new products will be when the Mpeg4 stuff comes out.

As for what I have seen of Dish, the equipment was inferior and that made me think that the product is inferior.

Until the new Mpeg4 stuff comes out, the DirecTV HD Tivo is the best thing going. But, it looks as if it will be obsolete soon so I wouldn't buy one...

Just to tell you, DISH doesnt have a DVD burner in any of thier receivers. Only PVR/DVR and right now, they are offering to upgrade to a PVR/DVR when you sign up. Just go to their website and look it up.

I think that was meant as hyperbole.
