I am tring to find a universal remote that will work with everything in my system and the only problem seems to be my hi-def Dishnetwork box the dish 811. It seems that this box only works with rf not ir. I contacted dishnetwork and they said that is the way it works! The remote that comes with it won't work with much of anything else. Just want to get rid of multiple remotes doesn't any one make one that can do it all?

Press the SYSTEMINFO on the front of the receiver, and look at the Remote Address:, if it is anything other than 1, then an IR remote won't work. Look at the instructions on page 24 of the manual and change it to 1. If you have another Dishnetwork receiver with a UHF remote, you may have to change that one also so one UHF remote doesn't control both receivers at once. A universal or Dishnetwork IR remote will only work if the remote address is 1
Good Luck

First off I hate Dish Network, their equipment and the customer service sucks!!!! I have two clients with Dish and they are the majority of my sevice calls, and only 6 boxes and you have to get a second account.
rant off

As far as the remote address goes, you can use a universal remote with any of the codesets. I have 2 different houses with over ten boxes in each house and have used most of the codeset options.

kb2umt, So am I understanding you correctly that if I change the 811 to remote address 1 that my pronto 1000 will be able to work with the 811? If not and I need to go with the pronto tsu3000 and the rf/ir converter, how do I program the 3000 (how do I "teach" it the rf codes).

Thanks for your help.

I can't speak to that remote, but I do kow that my Sony Wega (IR) remote only works with the Dishnetwork 811 if the remote address in the 811 is set to 1
Sorry I can't help you with that remote, but I'm sure someone else can

I guess i should first asked you what kind of universal remote you were looking at.

A preprogrammed universal remote or a learning remote. If it is a preprogrammed remote, that make makes sense that it would only respond to code set # 1. A learning remote will learn whatever code set the remote and box are set to. I have used the Pronto line and it works great with several of the code set being used. In 1 projesct I am using 2 TSU 6000's, a TSU 3000, and 3 TSU 7000's with at least 2 of the 811 boxes on a codeset other than 1.

In the Installation or Set Up menu of the 811(can't remember off hand which "tree" it is) there is a section that allows you retrieve the IR signals from the front of the receiver.

What it prompts you to do is to press each button on the UHF remote and the 811 receiver will emit the corresponding IR pulse from the front panel for you to acquire on a learning remote control.

It definately works....and it's also in a very pecular location in the menus.

And by the way...If you change the ID code of the UHF remote to operate a different receiver, the IR codes follow the ID code and changes as well.

Ok Just s you know there is a way to "teach" an ir remote, go to the diagnostics menu on the you canteach a remote to get there press menu -6-3, then go to teach remote and every button you press will teach the ir that command. Both remotes must be pointing at the rcvr.

Just so you know a 811 remote sends out both ir and uhf/rf you can use the uhf/rf with rcvr and then the ir for tv/vcr/dvd/stereo ect.

Follow-up question to an old topic.... but I've been struggling trying to get my universal remote to learn the * button from the hdtv uhf remote that came with my receiver. You see, the * button swaps between the various hd stretch modes when in HD mode. Because the remote only works in UHF for SAT mode, my IR based universal remote won't learn that button.

I also tried the TEACH ME feature but couldn't get it to work at all with my universal remote.
