Have you tried changing the position of the SS 2000 ?
I find I have to fuss with mine occasionaly.

I know people on this board have mixed feeling about amplifiers but you could always add a 2nd more powerful one in series with the one that the 2000 uses. I am doing this. I think my coax going down to the tuner is losing too much signal. In a perfect world with Quality coax and tuner in the attic I probaby would not need the 2nd amp.

Also just for grins you could take the plastic cover off the front of the 2000 and see if you get the channels back, but if you have the antenna mounted out side you could not leave it with the plastic cover off. I never did put the cover back on mine that is mounted in the attic.

I am in a bowl also, plus antennas are in the attic.

I know nothing about the Sensar III - sorry ! But I do like the less directional and better pick up range of my 4228.

I am sorry I missed this thread for so long. I have some clarifications to add.

Or as bookaroni pointed out will the preamp if
unpowered occult
the signal in any way.
It looks like leaving the Preamp unpowered is
okay and it will just act
as a pass through when unpowered.

NOT! See below.

I was afraid
it would also introduce a
"db loss" when unpowered.

TOTALLY!. See below.

A basic issue is being overlooked about the power supply and amp. The amp is inside the antenna and it needs power to come up the cable to it. With no power, it not only does not amplify, it hardly lets any signal leak through. An amplifier with no power supplied to it is a pretty good attenuator, so if you remove the power supply, you should get holy terrible signal out of the antenna. Much worse than if you could get into the antenna and locate the input to the amp that is hidden inside there. This would be just like adding any amplifer to an antenna system, but not plugging it in.

Go back and look at what Winegard wrote -- they tell you that you can use an additional amplifer AFTER the power supply, i.e. in that case the supply would have to be in the attic, where you would also put the added amp (for lowest noise, put the amp as close to the antenna as possible, not down the line where the signal has fallen and signal to noise is therefore worse).

Bookaroni's solution works because the power supply, even in the basement, is sending power up to the antenna. If he unplugged the power supply, his signal would fall drastically. In fact, bookaroni, please try this and report back!

Coincidentally, the voltage available from a satellite line is enough to run the amp. Has anyone out there ever seen a diplexer that passes voltage on all ports? I haven't; I have seen the occasional TV antenna input that actually shorts out DC and needs a DC blocker if DC happens to be on the line, so someone would have to have a need for thousands of all-ports-passing diplexers for even ONE to be out there.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ernie,

Thanks for reminding me about the 2000's amp, although I am aware of what you say I twice now have reverted to think that the 2000 is just a 1000 with a small amp thrown in. Which of course it is not !!!

I saw someone before Christmas selling a Name Brand amp on Ebay. They said it had been removed from their outdoor antenna which they no longer needed. Trouble was they were advertising it as a complete amp when all they were selling was the power supply section and not the mast mounted section.

I pointed out to them that they were only selling half an amp on EBAY but they only half understood.

barlow... I that you are still working on yours!

Here's a good review on the ss-2000.
[Link: hdtvexpert.com]

There is a link there for the ss-1000 within his review. He also tests them by adding a preamp. He calls them good, but not outstanding, which is OK by me.

Now that our house is almost ready, I am pulling the pin on an ss-2000. And using a separate mount, as somebody followed up on my Square Shooter thread in April saying that the combo-dish mount made for one BIG wind-sail that can really shake your dish alignment to h#ll in a storm!
