WBXZ has amended their application to turn their directional signal more away from Canada as requested by Canada.

...engineer at Global Toronto told me it was for viewer convenience; some people like me with converter boxes prefer the cropped image (without having to adjust settings).

With the HEAT WARNINGS in effect for this weekend, expect this to affect (positively and negatively) signal reception.  Try scanning early Sunday morning to see what distant signals come in  clear.

Erie's WICU and WQLN came in good this morning for me.

WNYO-DT  today was granted approval by the FCC to move its transmitter to Grand Island in 2020 on RF  with a maximum ERP of 575 kW.

Years from now, you might as well kiss recording OTA TV goodbye thanks to ATSC 3

Thanks everyone for all the useful information on what is happening with the OTA channels.

I am not sure if anyone else has had this issue but as of Sunday July 15, CFTO Channel 9, from Toronto has had excessive macro blocking, and drop outs and today has totally failed on me. One TV just says retrieving information, and the other shows no signal strength at all.

I live in Burlington, Ontario so correct me if I am wrong as I should be able to get it with just and indoor antenna direct to either of my tvs, which I have tried, yet nothing.

As I thought it might be an issue with my existing setup, of CM4221 (Toronto), CM4228 (Buffalo) combined and sent through a CM777 amp.

Any thoughts or help is appreciated.

D. the 4221 uhf antenna performs poorly as VHF antenna. If you want to improve CFTO try adding VHF dipole and use UVJ combiner.

@rob50312

How do you go about doing that? Where do you put the VHF dipole and UVJ combiner in the connection chain? I have a 4221 as well and sometimes have issues with CFTO as well as other stations in the VHF band.

Also, do you know what the range is for a VHF dipole?

Thanks

I am sorry forgot to mention that I do have a small DIY yagi antenna for VHF aimed at Toronto in the mix and is on the third input of my combiner.
It was working fine for years, showing 80+ signal strength, but now I get nothing.
Below is a basic diagram of my setup

UHF Antenna Buffalo ------

UHF Antenna Toronto ------ Combiner ---- CM777 Amp ------ Splitter ----- TV1
----- TV2
VHF Antenna Toronto ------

I built my Yagi back when CFTO went from the temp UHF channel back down to VHF channel 9, however long that is ago now.

Only thing I can think of now is, could the 300-75ohm matching transformer on my Yagi gone bad?

Update:
Antenna is fine, something must be causing interference. I hooked up an old Homeworx OTA box, was getting very garbled CFTO. Went up and down in the channels and I got CHCH and WiVB, perhaps I need a band pass filter, so only CFTO comes through on the Yagi.

After after eating lunch, and thinking about my above results, I made simple shielding from tinfoil and cardboard.

I put it on the side that CHCH and WIVB would be hitting the antenna on, and now CFTO is back...so I am guessing if I can make a band pass filter for 189Mhz, that should clean up the signal for CFTO permanently.
