Living 70 miles east southeast of Toronto, Channel 9 CFTO doesn't have much of a signal here, but I could sometimes get it thru my attic bowtie antenna, by aiming it the wrong way. I discovered the other day that if I turn on my three way light (the new efficient kind) while watching CFTO, the channel 9 is GONE! The antenna is about 10 feet above the light in my living room. It doesn't seem to interfere with any other frequency.
Reception on many Toronto UHF stations was poorly (unusually so) this past summer, but seems now to have returned to normal.

As per the heated discussions of this past summer, on the CRTC's Let's Talk TV forum, this article explains MY question: When will we know the CRTC's decision to pick-and-pay (it won't work) and the most important: will they let broadcasting over the air fade to black in Canada? (They had better not).

Here's the link: [Link: thestar.com]

I voted on the question in the article and was surprised at how high the result was for who the CRTC favours according to what WE think.

My fingers are crossed until decision day...

Some Canadian stations will be forced to move to a lower frequency along with the U.S. stations , after a new treaty is signed and the U.S. incentive auction is completed!
A minimum of 7 to a maximum of 24 channel allotments.

INDUSTRY CANADA IS HEREBY INITIATING A CONSULTATION ON REPURPOSING SPECTRUM IN THE 600 MHZ BAND, AS ANNOUNCED IN THE CANADA GAZETTE, PART I, NOTICE NO. SLPB-005-14. COMMENTS ARE BEING SOUGHT ON ALL ASPECTS RELATED TO THE REPURPOSING OF THIS BAND.

[Link: ic.gc.ca]

"6. This consultation is required in order to determine the use of the band and whether Canada will participate in a joint repurposing initiative along with the United States. This first step focuses on the technical aspects of repurposing spectrum currently used for broadcasting and other purposes. Should the Department proceed with this initiative, an implementation plan that determines which stations would be required to move and lists the associated timelines would be established after the U.S. incentive auction is completed. The policy and the technical and licensing rules pertaining to the repurposed mobile spectrum would be established in the context of a future separate consultation process. Some details about the expected implications and timing of that separate process are included in this document."

In the midst of all this talk of re-allocating channels, 4K on OTA in the not too distant future, it looks like some more choices for us near or in Buffalo are on the horizon...

WKBW 7-2 will be LAFF TV showing Movies and comedies. According to Wiki its slated to sign on in April.

WBXZ Channel 56 has an infinite number of sub-channels and will bring their total to 8 by spring. They're still planning on getting Heartland and PBJ and they're in talks to acquire two more diginets.

Here's info on LAFF: [Link: broadcastingcable.com]

I think most are aware that WGRZ 2.2 will once again be Antenna TV and 2.3 will become Justice tomorrow.

I wonder what their sub-channels will become next year...seems to be an annual thing.

It just seems here in Canada they will do anything to continue to pick our pockets as much as possible. The CRTC should govern themselves accordingly and ensure people are treated fairly. And enough of this nonsense Pay to View BS talk.

Ok guys. I'm almost out of ideas, so I'm hoping the great minds of this forum may have an idea as to what is causing my problem:

I have a TV upstairs and a TV downstairs with both a bell and dish receiver on each. They both have off-air inputs that allow me to record and pause OTA like the channels on the dish. And set timers too.

Up until about 3 or 4 weeks ago on all 4 receivers, the two upstairs and the two downstairs, all the prime time shows on WUTV Channel 29 come with described video. I never set up this feature.

I've reset the TV, the receivers, the stereo receiver to their factory settings and still nothing. If I use the TV off air input and bypass the receivers there's no described video. So anyone would say it's the receivers. Only problem: I never changed anything in any of the receivers. In the Bell receivers the DV option is turned off and that "voice" is still there.

My only other options are calling Bell and explaining it to them. I know that my odds of winning the lottery are better than getting someone who even knows what an off air antenna is at Bell. Or call WUTV.

I'll call channel 29 first.

Thanks for any suggestions everyone.

UPDATE: I just got off the phone with the chief engineer at WUTV and he believes he corrected the problem 5 minutes before I called. (I was the 4th person) to call about the problem. I'll tune in tonight to see if the problem's been fixed.

Fingers crossed.

First post & wanted to share with you some details of the channels I am receiving in Pickering Ontario, 2km north of the lake.

I have previously tried a small Philips 25db indoor antenna which gave me 17 channels. After doing a web search I bought from Amazon.ca the paper thin winegard FL5500A amplified indoor antenna ($75.68 total cost). I have it installed taped to the back of a lampshade on the side table, antenna facing SW, second floor bedroom.

I am receiving 30 quality individual TV channels. One small feature with it taped to the lampshade is that I can move/turn the shade slighty a few degree rotations if the signal shimmers a bit to get rid of it. My own form of rotary device.

WKBW has informed me that due to 'equipment problems', the debut of LAFF TV on 7-2 will 'hopefully' be 'Monday'.  The equipment received from LAFF/escape was damaged.
