According to Daniel's chart ..PBS is still at 156 kw at approximately just over one thousand feet ..seems to me nothing has changed on their end .. here in Waterloo I get a few American stations hit and miss when the jet stream is elevated north ..just too far away about 85 to 110 miles from Buffalo .. and the range is pretty much capped at around 60 miles ..due to the curvature of the earth

As long as people are watching, advertisors are paying.
Would have thought the whole off air thing would give them a fudge factor to add to their viewership numbers.
Hope the CRTC stands firm on this, otherwise they just add fuel to people finding ways to pirate the shows.
... now the internet is a great resource for finding what you want to watch without paying cable or satellite TV bills.

True,true, [cutting their own throats]
that's what I already do.

...the reason I never edited the .inf- style file for my capture card.
I noticed the new network when I tuned to 49.2 recently [instead of a duplicate of 49.1 showing].

Also having problems with a weak signal from PBS WNED ch. 17.1 & .2. Over the past 9 months unable to receive the channel with an amplified twin bowtie indoor antenna mounted at 2nd floor ceiling. Connected to a 5 year old Sharp LCD.

Strangely enough I am able to receive ch. 17 periodically using a straight, stick unamplified antenna ontop of the main floor refrigerator with a new 22" Samsung LED.

Does anyone know if the OTA tuners have improved over 5 years?

Yes and no, some tuners in TV have improved and some not, I have a standalone HD OTA box, about 4 years old, it picks up some channels better than my new Vizio HD TV. It all depends on the tuners performance on signal strength AND rejection of multi-path signals.

Its a hit and miss. This would not be an issue or noticable, if only one tv was available.

We have an HBU55 rooftop with a CM777 Titan2 preamp. Was really happy last night when I noticed that CHCH was back in Hamburg, NY. Noticed this morning that it's actually WTOL out of Toledo, OH. That's insane. How can this be it's 300 miles way? Looking at a map it must be shooting right across the lake. Have others seen this type of thing before?

Update on Toledo channels is now they are gone. There was also a sub-channel MeTV 11-2. They are still programmed but they no longer come in no matter what direction the antenna is pointed. Love to know why I was able to get them. Strong signal from the source maybe? Seems bizarre that I was able (for a short time/Friday night and Saturday morning) to get channels from so far away.

That's what it is. I notice more often in the summer and at night you can easily pick up distant stations. Back in the analog days, in St. Catharines we'd get WKBD Fox 50 Detroit (not Fox anymore) and WWTI 50 from Watertown just by turning the antenna. We'd get Global from Midland and stations from Clevelnad too. Even as far as Youngstown, OH. Just don't expect to get those channels all the time.

Last night I was able to add CFPL 10 London and the signal for me from CKCO 13 in Kitchener was higher (97%) than CFTO 9 from Toronto!

Glad to hear you're happy with your HBU55. That's likely the antenna I'm going to go with when I need to replace my 22 year old Delhi929. I prefer the traditional look of those antennas.

Thanks for letting me know and thanks for the detailed explanation. Yes the antenna works great. I got it based on the recommendation of Bill from Grand Island. People in this forum are the best.

Commercials for a new channel: YES TV coming in the fall are for CITS-TV's Channel 36 CTS. At their web site Yes TV will carry Jeopardy, Wheel (I guess CHCH won't be) as well as Judge Judy and X-factor and Idol (repeats) At the bottom of the page it says Crossroads and they will be on Bell TV channel 651.

No word on where they will be on broadcast, but we all know where they are.

Someone here (WNY) had YES TV some time back. Don't know what happened to it.
Years from now, you might as well kiss recording OTA TV goodbye thanks to ATSC 3

Crossroads YES TV is not affiliated in any way with the U.S. YES Network.

Yeah, sorry. I should have mentioned that. I didn't expect to get the Yankees network in Canada OTA.

Okay, as noted in other blogs, for those who are interested, WNYB has added a new subchannel at 26-4  ARAMARIC BROADCAST NETWORK.
