Seems you need to continue to tweak your antenna. I find I get more channels during the day versus the night for some reason.

As long as I get Hockey Night in Canada I am happy.. ;-)

WBXZ's facebook page says they'll be running tests on Wednesday, but it won't be their permanent transmitter. I read earlier that their "official" launch date would be Monday the 3rd.

They'll be showing an old movie and they're looking for feedback when they run these tests.

RF17 in Buffalo on Channel 56-1 thru 5
56-1 was going to be Retro TV, but now it looks like it will be COZI-TV.

New Forum Member, this site has been of great help (a big thank you to the adm and/or mods) when deciding to cancel the Rogers Cable subscription 2+ years ago, therefore I'd like to bring my own contribution for all out there in the Toronto Area who maybe don't know yet what HDTV channels are available out there. And ALL FREE.

Hopefully I'm allowed to post YT links, feel free to read the video info for more details.

Basically, 11 Canadian channels and 12 American channels, all you need is an ordinary INDOOR antenna and, obviously, an HD TV set.

I'm gonna do another similar video during the Super Bowl, broadcast live on CTV in Canada and FOX Network (FOX 29 in the Toronto-Buffalo area) in USA, to show everybody how you can easily watch the Super Bowl LIVE in Toronto WITH American commercials.

If anybody has got questions, I'll be more than pleased to give my honest and humble answers.

Happy FREE HDTV watching everybody.

Impressive with only an indoor antenna. Please give more details. Where are you located, are you in a high rise (what floor). Is indoor antenna fixed? Describe the make and model of the antenna, is it amplifed etc...

I have an external antenna on the second floor of a house in North York and have trouble with some channels such as 11 and 35. So you are doing better than me.

Antenna: RCA CANT110, bought it in Dec 2011 at my local Future Shop store. No amplifier but it's pretty close to the balcony window.

[Link: usaudiomart.com]

My location: somewhere around Eglinton E and McCowan in Scarborough, 21st floor (4 damn long days w/o power and heat during the ice storm). Again, clear view of the Southern Sky, CN Tower for Canadian channels and Buffalo for American channels.

Yes, I'm lucky with 11 (CHCH Hamilton) and 35 (CTV 2 Barrie), both in excellent quality and no interruptions AT ALL. Same for the other channels, all running beautifully.

As soon as I'll get more channels, if any, I'll update this thread or the other one.

Hopefully no Bell or Rogers "mafia" ppl LOL to come after me, now that anybody interested in FREE TV can see that OTA TV DOES exist in our area.

Not to say watching Super Bowl with American commercials on Fox 29 Buffalo.

Be safe out there.

Chris

Your height (21st) floor and clear view helps a lot. When the weather warms up (I get better reception in the summer), you should be able to get WBBZ and Ion which are on rf 7 and rf 23. They have several subchannels. Based on your location, you should also receive Rochester stations on exceptional days in the summer.

With ION, I used to get the channel last summer I think, but just in and out for just 2-3 hrs per day mostly in the late evening and mostly poor reception. If you look at the Graph column for this particular channel, they are not much in love with North and South directions (same like Fox 29) BUT look at the POWER column for Fox 29 and then for ION, ION needs a more powerful transmitter in order to allow viewers in Toronto watch their programs.

With WBBZ, not getting it as well and located in the very same area with rest of US channels you see in my video, why is that? same issue, look at the POWER and/or HEIGHT columns, that's why WBBZ cannot be seen in Toronto, low power and low height for WBBZ transmitter. Unfortunately for us in Toronto vis-à-vis WBBZ: "There are currently no plans to increase transmission power".

Now, for the ADMIN of this great site, hopefully one day he/she is gonna read my post, we have a brand-new channel perfectly received in Toronto, it's channel 2-2, WGRZ-WN, and it's called Weather Nation, a 24-hr channel:

[Link: weathernationtv.com]

And Antenna TV, WGRZ-AT, is now on 2-3.

Also another change: CTV Two Barrie, right now is on 35-1, CHCJ-DT.

And with Rochester, NY channels, I think we in Toronto are too far from Rochester area but I'm absolutely sure ppl in Oshawa and East of Oshawa, around Port Hope, Cobourg, Trenton areas, can easily get all Rochester channels as long as Rochester channels use powerful transmitters like the one used by Fox 29 Buffalo.

With ION, ....
With WBBZ, .....
Now, for the ADMIN .......

You're largely preaching to the choir here Chris, though your info would be a boon for apartment/condo owners and other 'cliff dwellers' lucky enough to face in your southern exposure. :-)
So they can choose to cut the pay-tv and concentrate funds on high speed internet. 'Cause if you know where to go you can download the pay-tv stuff the early morning/next day after it 'airs'.
Your situation relates to my YMMV posts, for as I've said, as in real estate, its' location, location, location. I'm the flip to you, I get WBBZ and it's subs 50% of the time but because of its' low power CFTO is mostly an no show, yet I don't care now that CHCH is back on my tuners.

As for my HTPCs, which I'm down to one because of downloading, and haven't bothered installing the one MDP-130 into the new workstation.
In the next few years I'll be migrating to set-top boxes like one member recommended .....
[Link: remotecentral.com]

As tuners have improved since the MyHD was developed but keep one in play, with helper software, to read and load the results of STB. Though only after upgrading my monitor[s] or other display devices.
Then there are budget considerations, though I'm satisfied with what I got, I'm not missing anything but time.

The Admin you spoke of is the creator of our forum here and I'm sure Daniel is aware of the recent changes but has his hands full and will get to upgrading the map soon..

In 20+ years I cannot remember one Consumer Reports-like news story (like the ones Pat Foran on CTV Toronto 6pm news is doing daily) where ordinary citizens can find out that OTA TV channels DO exist in real life and how you can get them for FREE. And why is that? obviously a super easy answer: all TV ppl are employed by major corporations (Bell, Rogers, Shaw, CanWest, etc.) that own each and every channel, you will get fired right away IF you dare telling ppl a way to replace PAY-TV.

That's why I've done the video and posted the link in this forum as well.

Since I've cancelled my Rogers subscription in Dec 2011, I got tons of offers from Rogers AND Bell to join them again, NOT IN A MILLION FREAKIN' YEARS!!!

And over the Internet you can watch ALL American channels LIVE and for FREE as well: Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, BBC, A&E (Duck Dynasty), History, Discovery, ESPN, etc., some 5-6 websites where ppl broadcast LIVE what they watch on TV in their own homes, all you need is to know all those websites (for privacy issues I'm not gonna name them here) and watch LIVE & FREE your favorite American channel/show. High Speed Internet connection required plus an HDTV with a built-in TV Tuner. That's it.

Just to confirm we will get the Superbowl in Toronto? I'm thinking of hosting a party at my place but don't want everybody to show up only to find out I can't even show the game! Are you saying we actually get 2 broadcasts of it? Please confirm the channel #'s so I can double check to make sure I get them. I have excellent coverage since my apt faces south over Lake Ontario with very little obstruction. Thanks.

Super Bowl on Fox Network (Fox 29 Buffalo, 29-1) with American Commercials and on CTV Toronto, 9-1, with Canadian Commercials. I'm in Scarborough and have watched the previous two (2012 & 2013) Super Bowls on Fox 29 Buffalo WITH American Commercials. LIVE of course.

Only when you use the Rogers or Bell or Shaw feed, Canadian feed (CTV for Super Bowl) will preempt the original American feed (FOX 29 Buffalo in the Super Bowl case). An indoor antenna is the ONLY way you can easily bypass that particular CRTC ruling and NOT just for the Super Bowl event.

Some important links for you to understand what I'm talking about:

Enjoy the game.

Chris

PS Anytime during the game, but pregame show as well, as soon as you see a commercial flip the channels btwn 29-1 and 9-1 and show your guests the difference btwn the Canadian feed (Canadian commercials) and the American feed (American commercials). I bet most of them if not all, have never seen/heard of this stuff before. Do it when they play this particular commercial on Fox 29 Buffalo and see what commercial runs on CTV in the very same moment. Ask them what feed they enjoy the most. Good Luck.

Yes, The Superbowl will be on CTV in Canada and on FOX in the U.S. With an antenna, you have the choice of watching it either on Channel 9 (CTV) or Channel 29 (Fox)

Channel 13 is also CTV (CKCO-Kitchener)

But the originating network is FOX and the channel to watch it on is 29.

I just installed 1 Db8 from antennas direct just west of airport rd and thamesgate that is north of derry just before the train tracks. It is in the chimney with a j mount in a bungalow. The signal path crosses the pearson airport in in the center that I think is killing my buffallo signals. Only cw pbs and barely fox but nothing of the rest. 2 big trees 50 to 100 m with no leafs now. Can someone in that area or behing me whose signal path crosses the airport tell me if I am out luck due to interference from the pearson airport?

Thanks.

Location is King. That will determine what you can get via OTA and what you cannot. For me anyway I am continuing to enjoy my setup.

Updating the Southern Ontario OTA HDTV Status Grid:

(1) WPXJ-DT 51 [RF 23] has added The Home Shopping Network (HSN) on 51-6.

(2) CHCJ-DT 35 [RF 35] Hamilton has increased their TPO circa January 30, 2014
"2kW from each of the two main transmitters" thus ⇒ 4 kW TPO + 19.89 dB gain = 390 kW ERP
