CKVR repeaters for Hamilton and Fonthill have been approved. Decision announced this morning:
[Link: crtc.gc.ca]While it was 'nice' to see the CRTC post two of their own commissioners' dissenting comments, it's still a bit of a farce. What
don't they approve with a rubber stamp? Oh, wait, I forgot;
hiring a new $300,000/year chairperson. Insert seething sarcasm here.
And this is amusing:
The transmitters must be operational at the earliest possible date and in any event no later than 24 months from the date of this decision, unless a request for an extension of time is approved by the Commission before 26 January 2014. In order to ensure that such a request is processed in a timely manner, it should be submitted in writing at least 60 days before that date.
Does the CRTC have a person dedicated to writing ultra-polite restrictions? Why do they even state that extensions can be requested -- is
two years not long enough?!! Just stating the procedure for requesting an extension is an invitation for BHell to request one.
I'll be amazed if we see any new transmitters in operation before 2014, but you can bet the simsub'ing will begin immediately, whether permitted or not.
