Is anyone else having problems getting GLOBAL 41.1?
The signal has been really weak for me since they started airing content.
Located in the High Park area of Toronto, north facing view.

Are you SURE they're airing content right now? I've locked onto the signal, with good quality, a number of times, but all times there wasn't anything there to see (just garble).

Same with me in central North York. Signal strength is still very strong and I only see a black screen... no video, not even the test pattern we had last week. Not clear to me why they turned off their test pattern. OMNI 1 and 2 are also broadcasting their carrier signal without any video. They must be testing the reliability of their transmitters ... if not, they are just teasing us?

p.s. We should be getting real broadcasts from Global by Friday the 18th.

On my tuner when I tune in Global I get a garbled image of whatever the last channel I was watching at 1080i (ie. CBC, CTV, CBS) with some random moving bits, plus a low whine sound (sounded like a hard drive failing at first).

Have to say that Bell's "free HDTV" could be interesting. If they merely leave it unencrypted, then any MPEG2 HDTV capable FTA receiver could receive it.

If they instead propose to leave it encrypted but make it a "freebie" tier to ExpressVu customers... well that's nowhere near as interesting.

It could be interesting if it really is free, and if they dont overcompress it, - Although I've never seen HD on satellite myself, I've heard the derogatory term "CompressVu" bounced around, and that's for paying customers; doesnt bode well for freebies. But, it's all just hearsay.

I've not seen Global broadcast any content yet. my TV seems to "remember" the last image from the last channel tuned, and garble it, and display it when I tune to CIII-DT - much the same as others have reported. Interesting this happens on many different brands of TV.

Perhaps they've unplugged the test pattern generator, and are going to plug in the live feed ? - I dont think there's a problem with CIII right now, I did exchange emails with them last week, and I got the impression they are still working on it, and setting things up.

CompressVu...ha! you made me laugh out loud because it's true! I use an express vu receiver for my ota channels (they're incorporated into their guide), and if you watch something on let's say HD Net for a while and then go to an ota braodcast you can notice a slight difference. Obviously the ota signal is better--sharper.

HD cable is worse--at least in the Niagara area--and it's just uncomfortable to watch. My father-in law got an HD cable box and thought that that the 'regular' TSN channel was TSN HD. I said "No" and showed him where it was...and he didn't believe me. I really couldn't tell the difference either.

Your not the only one. I am getting the exact symptoms as you. Hopefully Global will get there act together and stop delaying there transmission.

Just thought i would post one of my latest projects. This is a poor man's version of the CM-4221 antenna that cost me virtually nothing to make. Actually the only thing i had to purchase in this case was the 300 Ohm to 75 Ohm Balun and that cost me a total of $3.00, the rest was made from a spare piece of wooden post, coat hangers for elements, and some extra metal ducting that i had in the basement for use as the reflector.

The plans for this design are based on a post by Sqeakypants and can be found here:
http://uhfhdtvantenna.blogspot.com/

If you've followed some of my previous posts you'll notice that i was pulling in 21 Digital channels from the 32nd floor of my apartment on Bloor and Islington. I've built and tested this antenna on the 3rd floor of my parents house on Bloor and Dufferin and i'm getting all the same 21 digital channels that i get at the apartment but with slightly greater power plus 2 extra ones from Hamilton which i could never get with my current Terk setup in the apartment. Next step is to take this thing over to the apartment and see what kind of results i get. All in all, this antenna has already surpassed my expectations by giving me greater results from a much lower elevation then my high-rise apartment.

Enjoy :-)

Has anyone noticed CHCH-TV testing out their digital signal on air yet? Whenever I check, there's no signal at all. I mean come on guys--you're supposed to be on the air in TWO days!

Maybe I'm checking at the wrong time of day--anyone else getting nothing on channel 18?

I've got a funny feeling it will be 11:55 PM this Friday before Global and CHCH sign on.

Do you mean to say CIII is now broadcasting actual content rather just test screen? I seem to recall that CIII was blank last night when i was flipping through channels, did this change?

No signal for CHCH in Mississauga, midday on Wednesday. On a lighter note: Global is broadcasting real programming and not a test pattern anymore.
