I got tired of trying to get through to DirectTV via phone to resolve billing issues and changed over to a Dishplayer during the recent rebate program.

I now have two RCA receivers and a dual LNB dish to sell. My question is what to do about the access cards that go with the receivers. A quick check on Ebay shows the cards can be valuable by themselves. Should I be worried about selling the cards along with the recievers or should I keep them? How are the different types of cards identified and what is thier real value?

Finally, is anyone interested in purchasing some DSS equipment. One receiver is the recent RCA 5451 with Dolby Digital, the second rcvr is an old RCA. The dish has been painted but has a new dual LNB. Make me an offer, I'd rather work with the posters here at Remote Central.

I don't like the latest Directv customer support either. They are completely unavailable & seem not to give a damn. That's why I left cable too. I'm also thinking about changing to Dish. Is there much difference besides a little less sports programing. Are you happy with them and the equipment.

If they are black-cards that receive all satellite programs, I may be interested in buying those alone. If you are interested or if they are what I am talking about, e-mail me and we will talk further.

Jeff,
I have been happy with Dish so far. I got the Dishplayer and really like the user interface. I also get the local Denver stattions which is a plus. I've had several technical issues and eventually got thru to techs that new what they were talking about, but did have to hold for a while. The only negative is that I use the Pronto remote and don't have dicreet on/off codes which I did have with the RCA rcvrs. Email me if you have other specific questions.

Doug,
The reason why you can't get hold of DirectTV is because they just reached over 4 million "subscribing" customer base (cable is 11 million). DirectTV just took over USSB and Dishnetwork. The company (father company is GM, heard of em??) just tripled it's size in less than a year. They just put up 2 additional satellites in space (HDTV and ParaTodos). The reason why you can't get a hold of them is because they still have the original 3 buildings throughout the US to handle customer calls. By the beginning of next year, DirectTV will hire an additional 30,000 employees, and add 4 additional building throughout the US to handle all customer calls. If you are patient with them, they will take care of you. Remember, like any new venture, you will always come across roadblocks. DirectTV is the only true satelite network system of its kind!! They're the ones that started this whole thing!!! They've just come across a major roadblock, but they have addressed and are now taking care of the situation.. Hey, believe me, you want a piece of DirectTV!!!! AOL (heard of them??) gave GM/DirectTV $1.2 billion so that the 2 companies can merge together to bring satellite and internet access all into one unit!!! You don't want to miss out with these fellas... Any questions let me know...

Just a correction: DirectTV bought USSB and Primestar, NOT DISH Network. Dish Network is still independent, as far as I know.
Dish has been in the satellite biz for many years - the parent company is EchoStar, and I think they also used to make the Houston Tracker BUD(Big Ugly Dish) Equipment. Dish also now has 4 (soon 5) satellites, and will soon allow 500 channel access.

Thanks for the responses. I've sold all the equipment to readers on this board already.

It seems the two access cards I had were hot tickets, but I ended up selling them along with the receivers.

BTW, telephone access to Dishnetwork has been much better than with DirectTV, though there are still hold times. Good luck whoever you subscribe to.
