Sorry for the windy acronym filled post, but I want this thread to be a reference to anybody who needs to do what I'm doing.

The post is in reference to the Next Level Communications (NLC) VDSL Residential Gateway RG-2000 (RG2000) TV box.

The NLC RG2000 is a VDSL (Very high speed Digital subscriber Lines) based 3-channel box that provides TV and internet services from your phone company provider to Multiple Dwelling Units (MDU's ie: Condos).

My specific phone provider is Canadian Bell ExpressVu telephone & satellite provider, but this same unit is in use in many US based telephone providers.

The box feeds 3 separate TV feeds allowing you to watch 3 different video/audio programs simultaneously on different televisions.

Each of the 3 channels has a separate remote control (Model#: NLC SRC-200), which operate in either IR (infrared) or UHF (Radio frequency) mode. The IR mode is used in the room where the RG2000 box is located (ie: probably your living room). The UHF Radio modes are used for the remotes in other rooms as IR needs line of sight.

After that wordy preamble... here was my problem. The UHF radio remote from the second bedroom is flakey in performance AND the remote SUCKS big time. So, I wanted to use my own learning remote from the bedroom... BUT no such luck.

As mentioned above, the TV's that are located away from the RG2000 box control it via RF and there is no learning remote on the market currently that will broadcast RF commands. (This is totally different from the IR remotes that uses Radio as a distance extender.)

By comparing the 2 remotes that were in my possession, I realized that even though one was IR and the other was RF, they were the identical remote. So the SRC200 remote is capable of transmitting EITHER IR or UHF but not at the same time.

Also, the SRC-200 controls the volume and power on/off of your TV. Knowing how to program it for different Televisions is important.

Since no documentation on programming the remote was provided, and the technical help was zero from the provider... I took to the web. After many weeks of failed attempts, I finally located the programming info for this SRC200 remote... here it is. The information uses the cryptic A and B buttons located at the top of the remote.

By using this info, I was able to change the UHF remote to IR. The RG2000 doesn't care whether IR or UHF is controlling it. Once you change the remote to IR, you can use any available learning remote on the market to control it... including the ones that feature Radio range extenders.

PS: Note that you use these instructions at your own risk, don't blame me if it doesn't work or you mess something up.

Program SRC-200 Remote for Infra-red Operation

Press and hold the A button until LED blinks.
Press 7-8-9-0 on your remote.

Program Remote for Infra-red Stream 1
Press and hold the B button until LED blinks.
Press 7-8-9-001 on your remote.

Program Remote for Infra-red Stream 2
Press and hold the B button until LED blinks.
Press 7-8-9-002 on your remote.

Program Remote for Infra-red Stream 3
Press and hold the B button until LED blinks.
Press 7-8-9-003 on your remote.

Program SRC-200 Remote for UHF Operation

Press and hold the B button until LED blinks.
Press 7-8-9 plus the three digit ID code for the RG (Residential Gateway).

Notes on 3 digit ID code: Use the RG2000's setup menu with the remote control to determine the 3 digit id code that is assigned to the unit.
Valid numbers are 004-255 (Pick any 3-digit # sequence - Use the same for all remotes as ID code). Reserved numbers are 000, 001, 002, 003

Program First Remote to control UHF Stream 1
Press and hold the A button until LED blinks.
Press 7-8-9-1 on your remote.

Program Second Remote to control UHF Stream 2
Press and hold the A button until LED blinks.
Press 7-8-9-2 on your remote.

Program Third Remote to control UHF Stream 3
Press and hold the A button until LED blinks.
Press 7-8-9-3 on your remote.

Program SRC-200 Remote for Cross Operation of TV

Press and hold the MUTE button until LED blinks.
Press three digit TV remote ID.
Press POWER button to confirm that TV turns off.
Press POWER button again to turn TV back on.

Program SRC-200 Remote for Cross Operation of TV without knowing TV code at the TV

Press and hold the MUTE button until LED blinks.
Press POWER button on remote.
Push UP arrow repeatedly until TV powers off, then push the SELECT button and then push POWER to turn TV back on.

If you make a mistake and LED turns off prematurely, press and hold MUTE again until LED blinks and begin process over.
DOWN arrow works as well. The remote scrolls through the codes in its flash sequentially backwards from the current position wrapping around at the origin, 000.

Description of Lights on RG2000 box
Power
The power light blinks on and off for four to six minutes, as the N3 Residential Gateway is starting. A solid red light indicates the N3 Residential Gateway is ready to transmit video.
No light, or off, indicates that the N3 Residential Gateway is inactive.

Fail
A brief red light indicates the N3 Residential Gateway is preparing to start. If the light remains red for 15 minutes and no other lights appear, contact your Network Access Provider.
An amber light indicates that the N3 Residential Gateway is one to two minutes away from full operation.
No light, or off, indicates that video services are ready.

Message
The green light indicates a voice mail message is present.
No light, or off, indicates there are no voice mail messages.

Online
The green light indicates the N3 Residential Gateway has detected an active PC on the data port and is ready for use.
An amber light indicates the N3 Residential Gateway has detected an active PC on the data port, but the N3 Residential Gateway is not yet ready for use.
No light, or off, indicates there is no active PC detected on the data port.

Network
A green light indicates the N3 Residential Gateway is communicating with your NAP's network. The Network light turns green as the system is starting, and then turns off. The light turns green for a second time when the network is fully operational.
An amber light indicates the N3 Residential Gateway is communicating with your NAP's network but is not yet ready to use.
A red light indicates the N3 Residential Gateway is attempting to communicate with your NAP's network, but is not yet ready to use.
No light, or off, indicates there is no AC power to the N3 Residential Gateway. All other lights remain off, as well, if there is no AC Power.



Description of Buttons
Channel Up Button
Increases the channel number. When you are using the onscreen Program
Guide or Menu, moves the cursor up.

Channel Dn Button
Decreases the channel number. When you are using the onscreen Program Guide or Menu, moves the cursor down.

Left Arrow Button
When you are using the onscreen Program Guide or Menu, moves the cursor left.

Right Arrow Button
When you are using the onscreen Program Guide or Menu, moves the cursor right.

Menu Button
Displays the Gateway Menu.

Guide Button
Displays the Program Guide.

Select Button
In the on-screen Program Guide or Menu, selects the highlighted choice.
Power Button Tunes TV to default (Welcome) channel.
