Does anyone what what learning remotes have a good system for using with a combination phillips directv tivo receiver? I need to also control a Mits directview television, and volume controls only for an avr receiver. The Tivo remote will not learn the avr volume control. Thanks..

MX-500. Virtually designed for Tivo.

The jp1 remotes from One-For-All and Radio Shack are also pretty decent at Tivo use.

The newer ofa/rs remotes have codes for Philips tivos. The best of these is the RS 15-2116, it accepts advanced codes for missing commands not mapped already. Advanced codes are 3 digit codes for individual functions(thumbs up-062,thumbs down-066). On the 2116 remote the transport functions(play,FF) are already mapped. You have a choice of codes VCR0618 or SAT1142. They're both the same, but under different devices. It even has a advanced code for a power toggle-152.

What a bummer that the TiVo remote will not learn the AVR codes!

I have not used the MX-500, so it may totally solve this, but I have set up a few Prontos for customers, and I find every time that the TiVo remote is so ergonomically bitchen that they end up using the TiVo remote for the TiVo anyway.

Basically, I have given up trying to improve on the TiVo remote with another one. That means I would not try to put the TiVo commands on a programmable remote just to give them the Volume. If they are going to use two remotes anyway, why spend any money?

If they are already doing a Pronto for everything else, then of course I include the TiVo commands.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
