a customer has a Sony Tivo.... every half hour, on the hour, she has to reset the receiver... she has a brand new card in it, a replacement sent from DirecTv...

This started about a month ago, and is driving her insane.... dish pointing is not an issue here- some transponders are at 100%, the rest are at 95%...

I don't think it's set to record anything (forgot to check... heh)

Anyone ever have this happen before?

no, but have you called Sony to start a file on this damn thing? I have only had TiVos work well, never work, quit just before a heavy viewing weekend, or work endlessly. Never this particular problem.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I have noticed with the Sony SAT B-55's in the past that they always had to be reset a couple times. I personally just think Sony sucks at making sat recievers. I really like some of Sony's products, but DEFINITELY not their Sat recievers

I have been doing this for about 15 years and have never heard of a transponder being 100% You might want to repoint your dish and locate a new sat. you may be pointing wierd and just got lucky.

I have been doing this for 2 years and I get 100% all the time. Cut back on the caffeine when you're aiming the dish. There's no luck and there's no "new sat." We're all looking at the same birds, 100% on DTV is very common.

If she has a standalone Sony tivo (not an intigrated DirecTiVo) and is trying to control...I am guessing here an RCA Sat tuner with the serial cable that is included with the TiVo, tell here to unplug the serial cable and control the Sat tuner with the infrared blaster. Not all RCA models work right via the serial control...unfortunatly the blaster will drop a number every once in a while (and try to tune to channel 53 instead of 253) and record a black screen for the entire show length. Make sure she tries all the IR codes fast, medium & slow to get the one that works best. I am 99.9% sure that this is her problem.
