yay. Here in Canada, two companies are getting set to release a PVR; RCA and LG. Until then, we've had to rely on the Satellite companies for proprietary PVRs.
My question is for the Replay and TiVo owners: when you connect a subscription cable service to your Replay or TiVo, does the TV guide for your box(es) work? For example, I subscribe to 5 HDTV channels.... will they show up in the Grid on the PVR? Is that something I set up myself.
And two: how about recording? Does the PVR know what it's recording? Or does it rely on some IR device to activate the cable box, to change the channel at the right time, yada, yada... ... Mike

I have Dish Network and a relatively old Replay (a Panasonic Showstopper PV-HS2000).
The Replay has its own On-Screen Guide (OSG) and it “talks” to my Dish 5000 satellite receiver via a thin wire with an IR transmitter at the end. The IR transmitter is “glued” to the Dish receiver’s faceplate. The Replay “knows” what it’s recording in the sense that it controls the Dish 5000 receiver like a remote control and tells the receiver what channel to tune to.
The HDTV channels do NOT show up in the Replay’s OSG, but that’s good since the Replay can’t record HD.
