I was wondering if anyone had any input on a question of mine.. I am trying to decide if it is better to pay the monthly payment or just pay the lifetime fee for the Tivo service. I was thinking about doing monthly because who knows when this thing will die, but then i was thinking if it does die and i bought the lifetime subscription couldn't i just go get another one and continue on ro do they montior this by a serial number or something?

First of all, they state clearly that a "lifetime" subscription is for the life of the unit, not your lifetime, so if you buy another you'll have to buy another subscription. That having been said, TiVOs can be repaired and can even be "improved" (check out www.tivocommunity.com or www.digitalrecorder.tv for example), and I personally think that the odds of the unit completely dying before you've saved money by buying the lifetime subscription instead of the monthly are slim to none.

I have one of the first TiVo's, which is now going on three years old. It still performs flawlessly.
