I have an old mitsubishi 73" hdtv with the receiver. I was wondering if all hdtv are both interlaced and progressive. I hook up a sony dvd and it doesn't look impressive. If I buy a progressive dvd player, will it look sharper or does it look the same?
Answers appreciated,

The answer probably depends on whether or not your Mits has a video line-doubler, progressive scan, or other similar technology. A 480p DVD player would be upconverted by this capability, as would a 480i. Both would look the same. I have a prog-scan DVD hooked up to my HDTV-ready RCA, which has no line-doubling built in, but I use a basic DVD player for the Sony HD-ready set, which has the technology to upconvert to 1080i. ...
