Anyone who gets the HiDef broadcast of ABC out of Detroit... does there seem to be a missing centre-channel signal from the AC3? I have five HiDef channels coming in from Detroit, way up here in Ottawa, Canada, and the ABC affiliate is the only one missing the centre channel... ... Mike

Well, I'm in Minneapolis and have DirecTV. ABC 5 comes through all screwed up via Direct, but is perfectly fine via OTA. I think it's just my local affiliate's connection to Direct, though. Don't have HD, this is just stereo, which sounds all funky from Direct when DPLII is used. Probably sounds a bit off in stereo mode too, haven't tried it.

I've been meaning to call both companies about it, just haven't gotten to it.

Anthony: Likewise! Been too long...

Tx, Spiky. The thing is, with an HD box you get an AC3 (5l1) coax output for sound. This I jack into my surround Onkyo.

I haven't heard a 5.1 signal from the ABC station, just Dolby Digital... but any processing via PL2 or any other surround equivalent shows that there is no sound at all from the centre channel... while there is lots on the other stations.

I know, I was just relating a similar weird experience. Interesting that they are both ABC.

The ABC station in Detroit WXYZ-DT has a DD encoding problem.

Most of the time when they have HDTV from the network, it's 5.1, but not always.

When there is no HDTV/5.1, only the l/r channels are available and Pro Logic will not work.

They are aware of this and hope to resolve the problem soon.

I was watching A Bug's Life on ABC this past Sunday and experienced problems with the center channel. At one point in the broadcast the dialog was coming out of the left rear channel, not the center channel. It was so distracting I had to use the TV as the "center channel."

Malyard, that's exactly what I was doing this Sunday. Same problem, but the centre channel came on twice, and stayed on the second time. At least until I got bored and went away... . Now a friend tells me he heard there is a bug in the satellite that is causing this... doesn't sound logical to me, though.
