Sony stopped making them. If any are available I have heard nothing but bad things about them. You should look for a DTC-100. It is the only one with discretes.

Actually the dtc-100 is the only one I know of with 100% discretes , power and outputs Most of the others have work throughs for output that do work but not for power . [Link: remotecentral.com]This message was edited by kabster on 07/15/02 22:55.11.

I haven't heard of a new one yet, but I wouldn't buy a sony Sat reciever for my home if you beat me with one. We have had so many problems with Sony's, and the HD's we installed could be used to bake a cake. I don't know how much you guys like the Toshiba HD Sat recievers, But I installed one and thought it wasn't bad at all so far. It stays pretty cool too.

I would think that not all Sony HD receivers are problematic.
I have been a very happy owner of the HD-100 without any problems for almost 2 years.
My only complaint would be the loud fan that does not stop. Even this can't be heard when watching a movie.
Good luck.

I had a Sony HD Sat Receiver...took it back to Ed Kellum and Sons the next week. The channels switched slowly and blinked during switching, fan noise was like a Mack Truck running in my living room, no WINK Interactive and no Caller ID function. It was a Sony brainfart. Do-overs.

Sony has just issued a press release on 8/8/02 concerning the new Sony SAT-HD200 that replaces the '100' model. Sony says the new units will be available at the end of September. The price will be about $900.00. The only difference that I saw between the HD200 and the old HD100 is the inclusion of the DVI HDTV connector. I have had the HD100 receiver for a little over a year with no problems. I am disapointed in the lack of the availablity of discreet codes for the various output modes (i.e. Video 1, 2, 3 etc.) I am also concerned about what the DirecTV/Dish Network merger and the proposal by the networks/MPA/FCC/Congress to force HDTV signals to be carried only through a protected cable (i.e. DVI, 1394 Firewire...)and blocking the component video cable most systems use including my equipment will mean for me.
