Months ago I bought a Sony SAT60.($399 with $100 rebate) I love it. I thought I would have to pay another monthly fee if I bought another one, but I read in this forum that I only have to pay the directv "additional receiver fee"- so I ran out to buy another one. Now I can't find it anywhere. I like the SONY-- I have 2 feeds into it so I can record 2 shows at once. -I don't know anything else about the other brands, but I can't find any brand in stock at Best Buy, Wiz, Circuit City etc. On line I see "back-ordered"? Whats up??

Any suggestions? Are there newer models? Better models? Is the price the same? rebates still offered?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Barry

I would also recommend the Phillips DSR6000. I bought one a month ago from American Satellite. It cost me $99.00 shipped to my door. I believe it has most, if not all the features that the Sony has, but at a much more attractive price.

Just ordered the Phillips. Its 1/3 the price of what I paid for the SONY. If its 1/2 as good I'm way ahead. Thanks.

According to the regulars at www.tivocommunity.com all DirecTivos are made in the same factory using the same parts. They are just put in different boxes. The Sony remote is different but that doesn't justify the extra $$$ ( I think you are paying for the Sony name).

As for the DSR6000...
I just bought one from Expertsatellite.com via getconnected.com, it was practically free (except for shipping). The deal was only good for new subs to DirecTV.

It seems though that they're starting to run out of stock of these things. The new one I got was actually an older one that had 2 hard drives instead of one. Also the DSR6000 has a problem with Dolby digital thru the optical cable. If you're not using the optical cable you should be fine.

One other thing, it seems that a lot of the DTiVo units being sold (not just DSR6000) have slow flaky remotes. All you have to do is call TiVo and they'll replace it.

Cheers,

paksen
