The other day there was a post from someone which suggested using the sys info, on/off, on/off sequence to turn the unit on. I tested this with the platinum remote which is standard with the 501 and, as others found it failed for this unit. Then I observed in a standard remote the info and the sys info button are different. Sure enough if you use a standard (blue button remote)sys info button it works perfectly!
