I want to control an RCA Satellite box remotely from the TV IR remote. I have tried the Rotron and RCA IR to RF systems and they don't work reliably. I want to have the IR signal on the coax to the Satellite box and a box which is in series with the coax which stripped off to an IR emitter that sticks on to the RCA Sat box. I saw a system like this but cant find them. I think it was by Xtra Link 2. Help.....

Hey BobS,

I use a system from channel plus that injects ir over coax that works very well, (they also make sone awesome digital modulators. Basically you need there 8 way splitter with 10db amp and ir engine (model 8200), the input plate with emitters,(model 2010), and then you put the targets(model 2133) at each of the remote tv locations.

You can control up to 4 devices from this system to up to eight tv's, and as long as your coax runs are clean, as in no splitters, it is simple to install.

Anyway let me know what you think. I am a dealer if you need this stuff. You can check it out online, their website is either www.channelplus.com or www.multiplextechnologies.com.

Thanks,

Paul.

BobS,

The item you have seen is manufactured by XANTECH and is called Xtra Link 2. I have used dozens of them in the past couple years on installs, and they also work great. You should be able to find them for $100 or less.

Good luck!

I too have used many XtraLink units over the years. One thing to be aware of is that I am not sure you can use this on a coax that has the DSS voltage in it either diplexed or not.

you can't send the xantech xtralink control down the same coax as the dish lead because the dish lead already has a DC voltage on it of about 19VDC.

I have had an Xtralink system now for over 10years. I have 4 receivers in my house. Whilst they work really well they don't last very long in 10 years I have had to replace 6 of them. Hey Audio Video Doctor wouldn't mind getting some pricing from you for the Channel plus stuff.

The main problem with new members, as I see it, is they somehow locate a topic and add to that topic without noticing WHEN the topic was last addressed. zik, if that's a real question, take your ability to post and start a new thread. Be sure to use a thread title that describes the issue. For instance, "HELP" is about the worst title you could use, although I've actually seen threads with that title.

As for your problem, if you used Xantech's unregulated power supplies, you saved money on the initial purchase but had to pay later. I guess that's what comes with the Xtralink kits, though.

Regarding "the Channel Plus stuff," there's another newbie flaw: not being anything AT ALL like exact. For this, start yet another new thread, and tell him/us just what you're trying to do so we can figure out what you should have. You're asking for Channel Plus pricing, which is reasonable if you are competent to select, among the hundreds of possible products on the market, the product that's best for your situation. If, instead, you describe the situation and ask what to do, you'll get much more informative answers.

Be sure to choose the right forum. Both of those posts would be good in the installers forum because you're asking installers.

Best of luck and welcome to the site.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
