It seems that since the holidays these units have been hard to come by. One guy told me the Hughes unit was a holiday special?.. Anyhow.. These are great units. When will we seen the same or new ones? Anybody have ideas??

I just bought a Tivo/DirecTV Philips DSR6000 2 weeks ago (just before the Super Bowl) from http://www.americansatellite.com/

The unit was delivered in 4 days in perfect conditions.

I have also tried this web site in the past for my DirecTV needs:

Good Luck.

Appears that Hughes and Phillips are no longer going to make a DirectTivo IRD, although I've read where Sony will be coming out with a new DirectTivo soon.

Dish Network is very close to releasing their 721PVR IRD, which has dual tuner, record on one channel and watch the other, around 100 hrs worth copying to the hard drive, internet access, this will be a very nice upgrade from the 501. 721 will have a Linux based operating system and should not be as buggy as the 501 was for some people.

For the current models, Hughes makes the their own plus all of the Philips and Sony models DirecTivos.

As for Dish, I had the buggy Dishplayer. I almost "upgraded" to the 501 but waited to see if it worked. It's better than the Dishplayer but still buggy. What makes you think the 721 will be any better? It was supposed to be out in the fall. It was supposed to be out this winter. Now it is supposed to be out this spring. It is being developed by the same guys that brought us the 501.

Any new news from those who are paying attention?

Where are these new models coming from?

When will they be here?

Peers into his crystal ball. MMMMMMMMM cloudy outlook today.

DirecTiVo units are available from various places at various, and now continually rising prices. Go to tivocommunity.com lots of links there.
