Has anyone heard if Directv has any plans to add any of the network HD signals to their local network plan. I know Dish already provides the CBS HD signal.

Thanks,

Kris

I haven't heard specifically, but I would not be suprised if DirecTV and DISH both wait to see of the merger is approved before they add more HDTV. They just added a bunch of new channels due to "must carry" regulations and I suspect they on limited on spectrum right now. Until they can consolidate, I would bet we won't see anything new for HDTV, especially because it requires more bandwidth than the regular channels.

They added a new spot beam satellite for the locals, but I still doubt they will use that bandwidth for HD locals anytime soon. Currently they can sell more subscriptions by having more channels, that may change in the future when a larger percentage of the population has the equipment to recieve HD.

The CBS-HD on Dish doesn't work for everyone. You must live in a white area where you can't receive any CBS signal or you must live in a DMA with a CBS owned and operated station. People non-CBS owned areas are SOL. Even people who live in an area the is covered by a CBS-owned station and a locally owned CBS station are SOL. Dish requires that you get a waiver from the locally owned station. It seems to be a policy among stations to deny all satellite waivers.
