I have an RCA DirecTV Reciever(DRD450RG) hooked up to a Yamaha Reciever (RXV596), Yamaha DVD player (DVDS796) and Sony TV (KV27FS13). When I use the DVD player I get the DD signal throught the reciever (verified by the display - and my ears). However, when watching satellite tv (where DD is supposed to be available on select programs) I am not getting the DD signal. I have the satellite reciever set up for DD in the menu. Assuming I have the optical cables hooked up correctly, what could be the problem?

Splen, are you sure the receiver is set for DD on that input? Some units can switch each input for digital on or off. Try plugging the Sat's output into the DVD's input on the receiver, which you know is decoding properly. Process of elimination, one step at a time.

Still isn't working. I think I may be getting DD 2.0 (Dolby Surround?) but not DD 5.1. I'm a little upset, I got the DirecTV system so that I could utilize 5.1 more often, but hardly anything is programmed in 5.1.
Thanks for you help.
Patrick

PS-I have a fair amount of "flickering" when watching SAT TV. I think I need to have the guy come back and adjust my ant. Could this be causing a problem with the DD signal?

What do you mean by flickering? Your sat signal is digital, so it's pretty much on or off. You might get the occasional pixelation, where parts of the screen stop moving and you'll see a static image for a second or so as the picture breaks up.

There really is very little in DD5.1.

It must be a signal transmitted in 5.1 not just dolby digital.
Also the digital input might need to be turned on in the menu of the rca receiver
, preferences I believe . Then turn on the digital output . or let it decide .

Check the menu guide in DTV. If the program has a DD logo (one regular - one reversed "D"), then the movie is being broadcast in DD 5.1. Otherwise all other programs will come in in DD Stereo if you've got the sat receiver set for dolby digital output. MOviemax ususally has one or two programs in DD 5.1, and pay TV usually has one or two as well - pay TV will state "dobly digital" in the movie listing itself - they will usually broadcast one movie in both formats (DD 5.1, and Stero PCM/DD 2.0) on two channels at the same time period, so you can choose.
