I did an installation in Manhattan a few months back where I had to mount the dish inside the laundry room looking out through the window. (the building Management won't allow you to mount a dish on the building) The strange thing about this install is that with the shades up I have no signal but once I lower the shade all the way down I get a 85 peak signal. If I raise the shade 0 signal. Are the shades acting as a filter or diffuser?

What kind of shades. Plastic or aluminum venetian blinds. Cloth or vinyl roller blinds, or with a metalized mylar liner for darkness. Possibly wooden shutters or wooden venetians. Different materials will have different characteristics and "could" affect the signal, although I don't know why!

Zinon, I have a guess: You managed to align the dish with the shade (blinds?) re-directing (reflecting) the signal. I bet that you could find a signal without the shade if you re-adjust with the shade out of the line-of-sight.

EXT, they are very thin cloth shades.
Larry, what is strange about this set up is that if I try to peak the dish without the shades my signal is about 66-70 peak as soon as I drop the shades down I am in the 80's.If I open the window I get a signal in the 90's with the shades up or down.

is it dual pane glass ? Tinted or uv ? you also might be getting a reflected signal , from another building . Are you using a signal meter or the DTV receiver to tune the dish ? Try also tuning in on different transponders and match them .(the signals on each)
