OK guys, I've been reading the hype and come across 3:2 pulldown a lot. I know it has something to do with viewing media that was recorded on film. But what is it exactly??

Film is typically created at 24 Frames per second, and TV is at (nominally) 30 FPS. The camera/projector combination, called TeleCine, has to make a useful conversion, which is accomplished by using an intermittent film pull-down, instead of a one-to-one. By repeating frames intermittently, the 24-frame film is exposed to the camera 30 times, resulting in a useful picture at 30 FPS. The DTV encoding process can be made to detect the duplicated frames, and delete the related data, and the receiver can be made to repeat the frame to fill the resulting "hole" which decreases the overall data bandwidth by 20%....Richard
