| Being able to record to a VCR thru an IR blaster
by just selecting it on the grid is a great feature
that DirecTV does not have.

I beg to differ .

It doesnt matter what you buy just as long as
you get a TIVO lol Search around and you'll see
why

Sorry, but I don't want to pay TIVO $10 a month for a function that Dish gives you for free.

SORRRRY, but Directv has had one-touch-
record since 1996. The first receivers
to have it were the SONY A-2,B-2. And
all my receivers had to have it.And
before DSS, I had it built-in to my TV
via STARSIGHT. STARSIGHT technology
is in all DBS receivers.

Try adding up all the costs. My Tivo cost $50 with a new dish. @ $10/month, it will be over a year before it adds up to the lowest price available for the PVR 501. For $250 I can make it not cost anything per month, either. Tivo's business plan separates the cost of the equipment from the cost of the service. Only Micro$oft's UTV also does this.

As an added benefit, my Tivo never loses a recording.

I have to add that the picture quality of DirecTV has improved very noticeably over the past few months, no doubt because of the move of locals to the new satellite in Dec. No real complains now.
