Does anyone know as to whether or not you can use RCA "Direct TV" rcvrs (DTC100, & dra485re...ETC.) w/ a Dish Network HD dish and still be able to view and access the Dish Network programming?

The brand of sat dish is irrelevant. Yes you can use the Dish dish as long as it is pointed at the right sat.

You cannot use a DirecTV receiver to receive Dish Network programming.

Is this something that you have tried and failed at? Is it something that you have been told that it simply cannot be done?

I always get about 50% of my questions answered saying yes, and the other 50% percent say no.

I'm in the process now of trying to accomplish it with little to no success.

Rudmeister is talking about the dish not the receiver. He may be right about that. Your question asked about the receiver and you will have to use a reciever designed to receive Dish Network programming in order for it to work. If you have a DirecTV receiver why not just subscribe to DirecTV instead of Dish Network?

The dishes and LNBs are interchangeable between the two systems. The data streams for DiSH and DirecTV are encoded differently, however, and their receivers are not interchangeable.

No, I have not tried it, but there is lots of definitive information on the web in this regard.

I apologize, I did not see the end of your message about getting dish programming on a directv box. The sat dishes for either company can work on either box as long as it is pointed correctly but you cannot get dish on a directv box and vice versa.

We're mixing terms here. Let me see if I can clarify it for you.

The thing you put on your roof is not a satellite. It is commonly referred to as a satellite dish, but in fact, the physical dish is simply an antenna. Any of the round satellite dishes (antenna) will work with any type of satellite receiving equipment. The electonic boxes (the receivers) that you connect to the dish (antenna) are a different.story. No matter where you point your dish (antenna) you will never be able to receive DISH Network programming using a DirecTV receiver. Effectively, They speak different languages and won't be able to translate the signal into a useable form.
