Hi, I"m new to remote control world and try t understand them. Can someone help educate me on this? Is there a universal code signal that all Tv manufacture use for a single button? For example. let's say the on/off button (or any single button) has code 123456 and it's universal for all remote controls. doesn't matter if its a Samsung tv, LG or any other brand?

Thanks in advance.

If only it were that simple. Go here and scroll down to Working with Remote Controls; the various articles will give a brief insight into how convoluted a subject it is. Check this out too.

Interesting question. I know the buttons (the one's that work*) of my son's 2/3 year Sony flat panel (LED) remote will control my 13/14 year old Sony CRT TV. I wouldn't, however, go out on a limb and say all brands will do likewise.

*Note: To check if a remote is transmitting look at it through the screen of a digital/phone camera. Press a button and you should see the LED flash.
