Hi, I"m new to remote control world and try t understand them. Can someone help educate me on this? Is there a universal code signal that all Tv manufacture use for a single button? For example. let's say the on/off button (or any single button) has code 123456 and it's universal for all remote controls. doesn't matter if its a Samsung tv, LG or any other brand?

Thank you for your reply and one more question, can you tell me if all tvs in one brand name use the same code? like all Samsung tvs use he the same codes doesn't matter if a 2008 tv or 2013 tv? they use the same IR code? Thanks

Interesting question. I know the buttons (the one's that work*) of my son's 2/3 year Sony flat panel (LED) remote will control my 13/14 year old Sony CRT TV. I wouldn't, however, go out on a limb and say all brands will do likewise.

*Note: To check if a remote is transmitting look at it through the screen of a digital/phone camera. Press a button and you should see the LED flash.
