I have an Elan N800, controller, system stations.  Totally frustrated with my dealer and my programming is now out of date.  Is there a fairly user-friendly (though tech savvy) way to substitute another remote system? I assume I would eliminate the system stations . . . ?

I believe that's a question well beyond the scope of General Consumer Remotes. I suggest you try asking here.
