I had to install the new Comcast digital adapter, and I cannot get the remote control to function with my Magnavox 15mf605t/17 TV. None of the program codes work, and when I use the search function on the remote, I can turn the TV on/off, but the volume controls do not work. Anyone have a code for this model TV?

10054 should work very well.

I tried that, but the volume controls still do not work, and the mute button acts as the power button

Are you sure?
10054 sends RC-5 IR protocol, device 0. The assignment of functions numbers in RC-5 was set by Philips (the originator of this protocol), and power is function number 12, mute is 13, Vol+ is 16, Vol- is 17. hifi-remote.com has an upgrade file for your model TV, and not surprisingly it matches those function numbers.

I own a DTA, so I setup 10054 and learned the above functions into a separate JP1 remote. These decoded to the expected function numbers.

So......
Perhaps there is a malfunction in the DTA remote or TV. It would probably be a good idea to check with 10054 again.

Quite certain. I checked the remote, programmed it to another TV and it works just fine. When I use that code, both the + and - volume controls increase the volume. And the mute button turns the tv on and off.

Do you have a remote which does control the Magnavox correctly? If so, then probably the DTA remote is defective. The fact that the DTA remote controls volume on some other TV with a different setup code only shows that the volume buttons work. It doesn't show that the remote itself is sending the correct signals using 10054.

If you tell Comcast that both Vol+ and Vol- make the TV volume go up, they'll exchange remotes for you.

yes, but since I programmed it to another digital box to test it, and all buttons worked correctly, I do not think this would be the issue.

I have the same problem. I set up three and each remote has the same problem with the TV. I'm thinking about programing another remote to work with the digital box that i know already works with the TV. Let me know if you find a solution.

Today I installed a Comcast DTA and had exactly the same problem with my Magnavox 15MF605T. So I went looking for solutions -- which got me here.

Codes 10037 and 10054 will turn the TV on and off, but the volume only goes one way (up), regardless of which volume button on the remote is pushed. I also found that the Mute button turns the TV on and off. But, if you turn the TV off with the Mute button, you can't turn it on with the Power button; you must use the Mute button again. I have two other remotes that work properly with other TVs, but they do exactly the same thing to the Magnavox 15MF605T.

The programming in the Comcast remote must be at fault.

I had the same experience. The available codes would operate POWER, VOL + only, MUTE would do power, and there was no VOL -. Sometimes I would see volume drop one notch before going back up.

I wrote to Comcast customer support and even gave them the link to this thread. They gave me a boilerplate reply suggesting going to their office and swapping out a defective remote. I was about to write back and say what is the point because unless the vendor fixed crappy firmware it will do no good to try a different remote.

BUT...

I decided to try the other remote (we have two of the mini cable boxes). After resetting the first one for the other TV and testing it (that one is a Sony), I took the one that had previously been with the Sony, set it with 10054 and tried it with the Magnavox. Much to my surprise, it works ok. Mute is fine. VOL - is fine.

So it's possible that there are remotes out there with corrected firmware. The two digital adapters we have came as part of a shipment with a full cable box when cable boxes became mandatory so one might assume they were part of the same batch but apparently not.

So if you are having this issue with this model go ahead and head up to Comcast and try a different remote. You could even take the TV along; it's small enough. Print this out so they see it varies among remotes and let them find you one that works. (It would also embarrass them if they can't get it to work.)
