Does anyone know if the silver Comcast 3 in 1 (picture: ) can learn IR commands from another remote? I used the UEI standard set-up codes. The remote learned macros using 995 code. When I used the IR learning 975 code, it gave a long blink. Is the Comcast remote unable to learn new codes?

If NO: None of the device codes in the manual are for DVRs. Is there a code for a SONY RDR-HX900?

Never mind I found this forum . It is not a learning remote. Perhaps I can find advanced codes.

You should be able to use one of the DVD setup code by changing the IR mode in the RDR-HX900 to DVD1 mode (try either AUX/1758 or AUX/1904). It is set to DVD3 by default. There will be some functions missing, but you will be able to add them using advanced codes. If you can get it to work with a DVD setup code, post which one you are using and I will post how to program in the missing functions.

The picture of the remote is wrong. I changed the link on my first post.

It works with a Sony DVD code (21070) in the manual, but it does not have any recording functions on the remote. I believe I found the key codes here then I looked up the advanced code here . I put the Sony remote on DVD2. On the Comcast remote, I used the 994 code to put in an advanced code, but when I pushed the desired button, the remote gave a long blink. I found out here that I probably have to enter 171 as 00171, which it accepted. The codes did not work the DVR. What do I need to do?

OK, now we are getting somewhere. Actually, I think the one you have actually has a red Select/OK button, not grey, right? As you discovered, that one does have a setup code for DVD3.
Using setup code 21070, try these advanced codes for recording functions:

Record = 01692
Rec stop = 59292
Rec pause = 58780
Rec mode = 02460

Yours takes 5-digit advanced codes that include more information, not the older 3-digit codes.

Yes it has a red button, the picture link is updated. I found out here that I probably have to enter 171 as 00171, which it accepted. (As you said above.) However the codes do not work the DVR.

What do I to enter these codes? It doesn't follow the steps for the 994 code. Is this for DVD3? Also where did you get the setup code and the advanced codes?

The setup code 21070 is actually a slightly complicated protocol and just adding "00" to the advanced codes you find usually won't work. Try the ones I listed above, and post what other functions you need, and I can find the codes for you. You can do it yourself if you learn how to use the tools available for JP1 remotes, if you want.

To enter the advanced codes do the following:
1. Press and release the device button you are programming (CABLE, TV, or AUX, probably AUX in this case)
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 994
4. Press and release SETUP
5. Type the 5-digit advanced code
6. Press and release the button you want to assign that advanced code to
The remote should blink twice.

Sweet! They work. Thanks a lot. I know about the JP1 cable, but unless I can buy the cable myself in a store (I doubt it), that won't work becasue I still live at home with my parents :(

The other codes I am interested in are:

Stop [playback stop, not record stop]
Previous
Next
HDD
DVD
Cursor Mode
Zoom-
Zoom+
Timer
Tools
Title List
System Menu
Return (Exit)

Cool. I will give them a try later on. I thought I also might ask, but I don't think you can, is it possible to have a delay in IR commands during a macro? I also have a Radio Shack remote; can I assign a specific "button" (eg. IR command) to be sent using the SLEEP mode? So for example, I can have the SLEEP mode send a STOP command instead of POWER OFF. I tried assigning the STOP command to the POWER button, but it didn't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
