Good afternoon: there MUST be an easy easy solution to this. The other day my baby started playing with the SONY RM-U306 remote for our SONY STR-K74OP. I knew that was a mistake. The remote suddenly stopped working. I tried the following as solutions:

1. change the batteries
2. ensure that the receiver says C.MODE.AV2, which i did. I think it was set to av1
3. held down the buttons - AV I/O, - I/O, MASTER VOL + or - at the same time
4. finally i held down the power button for 5 sec on the master receiver, which reset some receiver settings.

None of these have helped. My receiver works fine, i push buttons, different stuff happens, but the remote stopped working all together. I barely used it, I don't believe it is broken, the baby must have pressed sleep or some other button combo that disabled it for a while. PLEASE PLEASE write me back, I'll owe someone who will help me BIG time, i'll make it worth your while somehow, email at

Funny, my sisters baby was playing with my remote yesterday and it stopped working! Coincidence I think not.....Baby conspiracy to take over the plant......I think so!

I have the RM-U306 with the STR-DE485E

Done same steps as above and I've also pointed it at a camera to make sure the IR LED is working!

And the moral of this tale is . . . don't let baby play with the remote.

As for your dilemma, check this out.

I've had the same issue after I (not a baby) messed up the remote somehow!! The infrared light on the remote stopped illuminating a year ago, but the remote still functioned until I was messing with my system this weekend. I tried pushing both of the green power buttons on the remote at the same time and successfully turned off my receiver, but that was all it would do. However, using some of your guidelines I was able to get my remote working again! With the receiver off I held down the power button on the receiver until the demonstration mode began. I let it go through most of the demonstration (don't know if that matters or not)then I turned off the power button. When I turned the receiver back on it was still in demonstration mode. At that time I immediately turned it off again. When I turned it back on, all factory settings had been restored and my remote worked?! Might have been just dumb luck but it may work for you. Good Luck!

I joined this site to say thank you! I should have just googled this about 8 months ago! Glad I was too lazy to go and buy high dollar universal remote as well.

Like everyone else I did something with the remote that effectively disabled everything except the 'system standby' function.

Holdlng down the Receiver power on button for 5+ seconds put the Receiver into the Demonstation mode. Pressing the power off button, during the demonstation mode startup text (as suggest in the start up text), switched the Receiver off. On switching the receiver on again the remote problem had dissapeared.

Thanks everyone for the advise.

I tried EVERYTHING after somehow accidentally screwing my remote by pressing volume up.

Tried the already suggested steps....NOTHING!!!!

POWER OFF/HOLD UP ON MENU CIRCLE/POWER ON

GIVES A **NORMAL SP* MESSAGE

REMOTE SUDDENLY WORKS...ALONG WITH THE WORLD....IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS

(This also gave me back setup options i lost when the remote stopped working, like changing speaker size)
