I have a Sharper Image Model SZ500, 8-in-1 Universal Remote Control. It's a touchscreen IR remote, black freestanding case.

It is apparently made by Shenzhen C&D of China, and looks a lot like their URCT-52D ([Link: cn-cdrc.com]), but with a slightly different array of buttons.

Please help me with whatever information you might have. I don't know how to program it and don't have any codes, either.

Thanks!

I have the manual. The code list is too long, but if you give me the device and brand I can list those codes.

There are three ways to program this remote.
Here is how to program with no codes, the last suggested method.
Automatic Code Search.

1. Turn on device you want the remote to control and aim the remote at your device. For VCR/CD/DVD, insert a tape/disk at the same time.
2. Press and hold the button for the device you wish to program for 3 sec. release.
3. Press and release the PLAY button; the code search starts. The LED flashes every second when a code is sent.
4. When your device turns off, press and release the PAUSE button. The code search pauses.
5. Press and release the CH- button. The remote sends out the previous code set and pauses. Watch your device to see if it turns on again. If your device does not respond, continue to press CH- every two seconds until it turns on again.
6. Once your device turns on, the correct code has been found. To store the code press and release device button immediately. The LED flashes slowly four times and turns off.
7. Verify the majority of your device's functions operate with the remote control. If some feastures do not respond, start the search again until you find one that allows your remote to control the majority of your device's functions.

Step 5 didn't always work right for me...so I would hit the power button after each CH- to see if the device turned on.

There is a way to find out what code is used above. The remote can learn and code learn from the original remote. Also you can turn the button beeb off/on. And the AUX can control a 2nd of any of the devices. But if you use the code search method above it may take a long time, since it is a 4 digit code.
Let me know if you have any other questions or would like to know about other features on this remote.

Thanks, milehighmisty, for this help. I did get the manual from Sharper Image (their email support was v. quick). Also, another member of the forums here emailed me a copy a few weeks later.

I'll post it in files.

This is a great Web site, and the forums obviously have wonderfully helpful members!

This manual is in the file area now under Sharper Image. Thanks for the addition!

A model number of your remote would be a help.
