My girlfriend has an LG DVD player. Somewhere in the move, the remote was lost. Doh. Two questions:

1) No universal remotes seem to support LG DVD players. I've tried RCA and OFA. Anyone aware of a universal brand or model that acknowledges LG DVD players? (Remember, learning remotes won't cut it because I don't have the original remote.)

2) Is there any magical way I can get a Harman/Microsft TC-1000 to work with this? (I've lost my serial cable for that remote also. God, we lose a lot of things.)

Thanks in advance!!!

What's the model number of the LG player and the OFA remote?

If you still have the OFA remote try DVD/0591.

Thanks for the suggestion, Rob. The LG is at home and I can check the model tonight. I don't have an OFA remote though. The one I'm looking at would be a URC6020 (at BestBuy in Canada). Similar and more expensive OFA remotes such as the 10820 do not list LG DVD as supported (on their website), so that's why I'm concerned. The budget is, ideally, under $40 (USD$35 or so). What info/theory do you base the DVD/0591 code on?

Darren.

I just found the 6020 manual online here (nice resource) and it lists the DVD/0591 code (along with others) to try. Strange, since OFA's own online search for LG DVD turned up nothing. Back to BestBuy I go... :-) If you don't hear back from me, all is well! Thanks again.

There are several upgrade files for LG DVD players in the JP1 File Section and all but one of them use the NECx1 protocol with a device code of 45 (the odd one out is a VCD player model number LG FL-R888K, which uses device code 46).

I then looked up this device code in my OFA files and found that it matches the following DVD codes: 0591, 0741 and 0869. The latter two codes aren't that common, but the DVD/0591 code is present in most OFA remotes.

Now, I should mention that I didn't compare all the button codes to see if they match, but as your earlier post seemed to imply that you'd tried an OFA remote and it didn't work, I assumed that you still had the OFA remote and figured it couldn't hurt to give the code a try.
