Would like code on the Protron PLTV 32 TV remote control. It is a very small silver colored remote. Bought TV from shop NBC. Also if anyone has an old STS Smart Remote it will learn the code and you can use it. The only thing is you still don't know the code after it learns it. Thanks!

Hi! I received two remotes for this tv and they both quit within a few days! Junk! Anyway, I am on my third learning remote to try and figure out the code---been code searching for hours, and still can't learn the code. Folks at shop NBS no help.

Could you let me know the code if you find out? I'll post it if I find it first.

Will definitely let you know if I find out the code. I don't feel very hopeful though!

When you teach a learning remote, you aren't using preset code, so there isn't one to blink back.

Personally I have never heard of this brand, and it isn't in any of the hundred or so universal remotes I own. : (

If your remote works, sounds like you need to get a learning remote before OEM remote dies.

Are you sure you don't have a "Proton" TV (rather than a ProtRon) ? The standard code for Proton TVs in "One For All" remotes is TV/0031.

There is a "Protron" (with an "r") brand of TVs. They are fairly new on the market though, and I doubt very much if you will be able to find the IR code pre-programmed in any universal remote. If your original remote has died, your best bet is to get a One-for-All upgradeable model and have their customer service add that code.

Why would you expect the Protron people to have any information about remote controls made by other companies? You'd be better off talking to the DirecTV helpdesk as it's their remote that you have a problem with. Now, they probably had a 3rd party make the remote for them, so they might not be able to help you either.

If the Protron TVs are as new to the market as the earlier posts suggest, I tend to agree that no universal remotes on the market right now are going to have codes for them.

This is in reply to remote codes... but I also have a Protron story.

This TV caught my eye one day about 2 months ago on ShopNbc while flipping through the channels. Anyhow.. after doing a lot of research on this TV... I was still skeptical. Well I thought I should go ahead and take a chance and as of today... my 32" Protron is one day old. And I have to tell you... it kicks butt !

The only complaint I have about the ShopNbc experience is that the online account detailing my purchase said it would be shipped Fed EX. It was shipped UPS. I got it in 6 days. 6 days is not bad at all.

Anyway... I am thrilled with this tv. Not just with the picture quality, but with the way it looks. It looks great and 32" turns out to be the perfect size for the room it's in.

Back to remote codes ! I called Protron customer service for the remote codes so I could use my cable remote as the main. The first time I called - someone picked up right away but transferred me to another line. I waited 45 minutes. I hung up.

I called back later and got someone almost instantly. The guy I talked to said he does not have remote codes and proceeded to try and sell me the Protron Universal Learning Remote for $17.99. " Would you like to order? " he asked. I hesitated and muttered something like.. " Do I have any choice ? ".

Fortunately for me the tech could not take payment over the phone... but instead provided me the address to send my check. So before I mail a check... I decided to make one final try... i called my cable company. I didn't call the cable company before because Protron was not listed in their remote codes pamphlet. I called and they gave me the code - and it works !!

Cable Company Time Warner Cable
Cable Box Scientific Atlantic HD
Code 0178

Have fun !

Hi,
I have the 37in LCD TV and Direct TV. The universal remote works with the Proton codes. I think it was 0105 but you can get these from the manual. You can download the manual from the Direct TV site if you have lost it.

I bought the PLTV-32 Protron LCD TV from ShopNBC in May 2005 and the remote has died already. Yeah, ShopNBC was of no help whatsoever, they promptly give you the manufacturer's toll free number to call and, course, I was on hold on Protron's automated answering service for 30 mins and finally gave up and hung up the phone. I'll try the 2 codes posted on this thread on a universal controller, but hopefully Protron will exchange my remote for a new, working one.

Thanks, I will give the remote code a shot! Btw, my remote control was not broken after all. I reset the TV (not power-cycle, but you can reset it via the menu) and the remote started working again. Somehow the IR had gotten into some faulty mode and all that was needed was a reset. Thanks for the tip on the code though. Rgds,Prasanna
